Re: We're being Talked about,......

I have only posted on this site twice and had never been to the site referenced above. I must say, in the response to my first post, I can easily see what they are talking about... The response "Owning a boat doesn't make you a marine mechanic." kind of rubbed me the wrong way... I asked a simple question and was looking for a simple response. I came to this site to learn from more experienced people. I have all the factory service manuals for all my toys and like to perform the maintenance myself whenever possible, but that is not my day job...

Anyway, you all are very knowledgeable and I will continue to learn from this site, but I will be prepared for any response I get.

Good show, Bondo! 8)8)8)
Now I can see why Seloc belongs in the outhouse....:)

Dshow, Don can be a little 'gruff' at times.....
You did jump threads (highack) though....
If you would have posted your own thread with that question, I'd wager that you would have gotten a different tone in his response....;)

Re: We're being Talked about,......

yes, there is a snobbish arrogant mentality to a lot of the topics in this forum. And it just proved itself to me since i don't bother reading posts here anymore because of that reason, i haven't even bothered clicking the iboats link in my favorites in like 1-2 months and i usually do it everyday at work at lunch, and this is the first thread i see when i come here on the sunday morning because I have nothing else to do and no other websites to surf.

I don't post here much anymore, not because people are rude or arrogant, but mostly due to the fact that I find it exhausting to try to help someone when they won't answer questions or take any of the advice that is given.

The fact that guys like Don and Bondo (and others) can find the motivation to continue to try to help others despite the often thankless nature of thier efforts is astounding to me. Yes, they sometimes get a bit sarcastic, but they keep posting answers to the same questions day after day, month after month. These guys are saints in my book.

WOW Bondo, that it will pay KevM's salary is reason enough not to purchase a Seloc - even if they were acuurate and error free.

Another point..........I equate this forum to an auto mechanic shop I used in the past...........one of the mechanics described the shop as "the real deal"............they weren't much for customer relations but they knew their way around an engine...........

That was great Bondo!
That guy sounds like a little wuss boy. I'd like to smack him with a Seloc manual.Another use for one besides using it as toilet paper!
That makes me want to join that site just to give them hell. But it isnt worth the time to type.
As for the people on here that thinks we are snobs....

Re: We're being Talked about,......

I tried to see the post being discussed, but the 'other' website had blocked it. I have been snooping around here for several years and have never felt abused in any way. I am an old auto technician with varied experience so I try not to ask stupid questions, and try to lend a hand when I can. I think it is a liberal thing as Bondo said. Some people already have their mind made up and just want someone to agree with them. I like to keep an open mind and am always willing to embrace other opinions if they make sense. I have recieved so much good information from this site which has saved me both money and trouble. Feel free to abuse me any time as you have earned the right by giving me all the free advice. After all nothing is really free as someone pays for it . Take freedom for instance..........

iboats.com is a Smart, but Unfriendly bunch

I just thought you guys might want to get a little Feedback on Our Atitudes.........:%

I also could not pull up that post but anyway feel like my boat would not have been cared for if not for the wisdom I received here albeit with a few rough edges:love:

bottom line is the advice far outweighs the a...holes or holier than thou attitudes that occasionally pop up

If you want some solid answers & tech advice - this is the place

I work at a local tech college.
One thing I've noticed over the last couple of years is that when some people hear what they don't WANT to hear (read truth), they respond with "You're rude!".
Something else, once in a while, some individuals, not having anything of value to add to the conversation, will play the PC card, as a form of contributing to the conversation.
Just some personal observations of the changing student body.

Re: We're being Talked about,......

If you REALLY want to see what a forum full of SNOBS looks like... visit BOATERED dot com. It is truly a country club (or should I say Yacht Club) atmosphere over there.

The only Pros I'm aware of are two guys who own the forum and Boatfix dot com. Forum members worship those two, who can do no wrong and their advise is THE only advise, period. Of course, you have to overlook the fact that their advise is usually pimping a product on Boatfix. God help you if you bring up SmartTabs over there!

Oh, and they now charge you to view the mechanical "self-help" articles, of which all are written by one of the owners. Admittedly, some can be helpful, but you have to buy a membership now to view them.

Props to IBoats for providing this open forum and allowing the opportunity for us to get help from a variety of sources.

Re: We're being Talked about,......

I wasn't able to read the post that started this thread but have an idea of what it was about. I consider myself a novice boater only having been on the water for two years. I am so glad I found iboats when first learning about boat ownership. Since then I check out the forums at least a few times a week and have gotten so much valuable information. Who cares if some of you get a little testy from time to time. The vast majority of the time it is deserved because dum posters can't expain themselves or only want to hear what they think is right. I would hate to lose this valuable resource so keep up the good work!

Power to the iboats posters. I gotta say that at times there are a couple of ankle biters out there, but isn't that just like real life? Being relatively new to boats (owned jet ski's for years) this forum has helped me tremendously. I can't put a price tag on the knowledge I have picked up from so many of the posters that day in and day out are faithful to these posts. These guys have full time jobs and families, yet they take the time to respond to our questions. Thank God for iboats!

Unfriendly???!!!! Well I'll kick their ***es!!!!

Just kidding!
Since I have been here I have been treated as nice as I could want especially being a low budget boater asking about and talking about my old heap of a boat. I've learned a lot and this is the only place I come to for my boating needs.

I like this site almost as much as I do my own.;)

The forum is also famous on the other side of the atlantic ocean - we have made a Scandinavian forum www.baadsnak.dk - we translate some of your answers (especialy Don`s Bondò etc) - so Iboats are widely known:love:
