I am looking at buying a '97 Johnson 175 Fast Strike, and the compression readings are #1-98, #2-100, #3-96, #4-95, #5-88, #6-90. Are these readings consistent with its age or does the #5 & #6 reading give concern as to the engines life expectancy?
DHPMARINE said:The 88 and 90 is a bit concerting.Can you do another compression test,backwards ? I mean start with #6 and #5 etc.?
Sometimes the battery isn't up to snuff at the end of a compression test, and that's a shame if you condemn an engine falsely.
When I get lower readings like yours,I go back to # 1
and see if it also dropped.
