Part number 438556 (About 50.00) will do the job. You will need to do a bit of plumbing with the fuel lines to make it work. Not a hard job....

Re: 85' 40 hp VRO fuel pump

I just did this same conversion on my 1990 50 hp. I was chasing down a fuel problem and I settled on the fuel pump. I decided a $50 pump was better than a $50 kit for my VRO.

The entire swap took two hours, with me working at a snails pace, going for parts (forgot to order the plug for the pulse hose), cutting a new gasket by hand (parts supplier could not get the gasket (fuel pump to cylinder case) for a few days.

Now I am waiting on a tilt and trim rebuild kit and a nice day to put the boat on the water.
