1970 North American

I'm new to the forum and would first just like to say hello to everyone,

I am looking for some feedback on a 1970 North American Offshore 22', I can't find too much detailed info on the manufacturer (b/c they are out of business) so I wanted to know if anyone on here has owned one and what they thought.

I am looking into restoring her with a new floor, transom, and engine. The hull looks to be in good shape as well as the topside, it seems like a sturdy boat. Can anyone attest to this.

They were good medium-duty boats; built like a tank, not all that smooth riding, but not a buster, either. Many came with OMC "stringer" drives, but you should be OK with a M/C. I'd opt for the biggest I could get. About 2:1 mileage, or there abouts. I'd love to have another, but they're hard to find that don't require a complete restoration ...

Also new to the forum. I stumbled here while looking for some more info on the S22. I also have a S22 that is about to go through complete restoration. A freind of mine owned the boat for years until the motor blew up and he let it sit. They were running the out of Cape Look Out , NC.

He loved the boat, but did not have the time, money or where withall to complete the restoration. The last power plant that they had in it was Chevy 350 mated to an Alpha I. (265 hp).

Glad I ofund a site where there are others interested in the North Americans.

As a side line I found three for sale in Georgia that were not in to bad of shape (Full restoration not required). However, they all needed new power, minor glass work, new decks and/or new paint.
