An interesting take Curmudgeon.....
So you don't think that it is part of a vast left wing conspiracy to challenge the validity of the war?
The paper said he was a hero, that's why I put it in the header......;)

"He is a disgrace to the uniform...

Not really. He started whining and the Army threw the BS flag. The uniform would have been disgraced had that not happened."

Interesting. As a veteran, his actions offend my senses. His actions are disgraceful, no matter how a person wants to spin it. That is not how a commisioned officer acts, period. I tasted a little bit of vomit when I first saw that news story...

Going in, you know that you may have to do something that you might not agree with, thats life in the military. You still do your duty, whether you like it or not.

Not at this point, although I see it taking on a life of it's own like the Cindy Schithead debacle. The defense is trying to make the case a referendum on the war, and the Army isn't having any of that BFM (which is what Dadddy is wailing about). If they can show the war is illegal, then they think it would logically follow that any order to go there would also be illegal. Kinda stupid in a courts- martial, but enter the liberal left from the peanut gallery ... :^

It’s open and shut..... if he had a problem with The Constitution, he should have said so before he pissed on it.

Mistrial declared in Watada court martial

ADAM LYNN; The News Tribune
February 7th, 2007

The military judge presiding over the court-martial of Lt. Ehren Watada declared a mistrial early this afternoon after prosecutors huddled and agreed they wanted one.

Lt. Col. John Head, who is presiding over the proceedings at Fort Lewis, set a new date of March 19. But Watada’s civilian attorney, Eric Seitz of Honolulu, said that he had other commitments around that time.

It could be summer before charges are refiled and court action resumes.

Head threw out the basis for the Army’s case right after lunch and asked prosecutors if they wanted him to declare a mistrial. Prosecutors took 30 minutes and decided they did.

At issue was a stipulation of facts that Watada signed earlier this week. In it, he admitted to a set of facts, including that he had a duty to board the plane that carried his unit to Iraq last June but that he intentionally missed the flight.

"I didn't understand what I was saying when I said I did it". "Oh, and my lawyer is busy until this summer". Be all you can be! takes on a whole new meaning when this bozo is included! :^

Re: LT. Watada...Hero or Cowardly Traitor?

its funny to watch custom and soul-whiner.
both love war on the TV but niether cares to actually join, kinda sad to see some folks so repressed.

I guess ole soule-whiner must be very depressed that the current commander in theif went AWOL for a bit, no worries that was before"terrorism" I guess.

however I am with JB, let the system work. its slow and overburdened but happens to be about the best on the planet to date.

is he a coward? most likly not. a traitor? most likly not as the bush administration has given away more secrets than watada ever knew. will he be convicted? I hope so just based on the evidence shown so far.
however we have not seen it all yet.
its to bad most civilian chickenhawks have no clue of the military.
once you swearin that 3rd time you just signed away 60% of your constitutionally protected rights.
JB and some others willattest to it.
they cease to exist until your clear of active/inactive military service.
it has to be that way.

when I got an order to be here or there with this or that on this date and hour I was there or I knew what the UCMJ would have to say about it.

but the military tribunal will try him, if convicted they will deal with him. thats how this system works. if you dont like this one join the Isreali one or even the african one.

myself this is the system I fought and served for.

Hey Rodbolt, ever think of taking an elementary English course. When you have mastered that you can move on to basic logic.

Re: LT. Watada...Hero or Cowardly Traitor?

I am sorry I confused poor techno.
maybe he just is not aware how the military works.
I will not label Watada as a coward, deserter or traitor until such evidence is shown and documented, what I ment was so far its fairly obvious based on the news coverage that he will be punished under the UCMJ. if your not sure what the UCMJ is then google it. all the articles are there for public view.
but as I read it and it was explained the section Watada is being charged under is the refusal of a commanding officers orders.
unless Watada can prove his orders were in fact unlawful he will be found guilty.
what the sentance will be remains to be seen.
this was kinda driven home while I was stationed at great lakes in the late 80's. we had an E6 that was a total idiot he just happened to outrank the rest of us.
after our E-8 recieved numerous complaints about the idiot E-6 he called all of us platoon leaders in for a conference.
he understood the E-6 was an imbecile, however he added that if the E-6 idiot said jump into lake Michigan and we had a complaint we had best be dripping wet when we showed up at his door.

Thanks for clearing that up rod. Not only do I know what the UCMJ is I can also spell it. ;) As to the dripping wet analogy, there may be some apples and oranges involved here. RE: The Caine Mutiny (yes, I know it was a fictional account) Peace good buddy. Edit: BTW my friends call me Ray. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong....he went AWOL during a time of war....they could have shot him on sight couldnt they?
Actually, what you refer to is desertion in the face of the enemy. AWOL. Desertion. Two very different things
