Any one know how to keep an outboard upright on the transom saver while in transit? I have tried duck tape (messy) and bungy cords (didn't really work), but am looking for a more permanent and convenient solution.

I often trailer my boat on rough roads, including some gravel roads. I heard of some clips that fit on the steering control cables - anyone tried these and know where I can buy some?

Am worried about wear and tear on my outboard's lower unit and the transom savers. Also, can't be good for the engine or the transom having that much weight flopping over one way or the other.

Like Willie says, lock the steering wheel in place. If there's nothing to bungee it to, put a "Club" anti theft device on the steering wheel to keep it from rotating.

Great Idea

I don't use a transom saver! I figure that if the transom can take the stress and thrust of a full throttle hole shot while pulling a skier out, the weight of the engine while trailering isn't going to bother it.

But then again, as preventive measures, I always plate my transom with ruthless aluminum angle. You could hit em with a truck and they wouldn't move!
