Hi once again.I will soon be posting pics of my project boat within the next couple of days.I was looking at some boat restor.pics here on iboats and seen that afew boats that were having the floors redone with new stringers, that the stringers appear to look like they are made of 3/4-1" plywood.
The ones in my boat were cedar 2"x4",do they need to be? Or could I use the plywood ?If so should I double up how many I use?

Get those pictures posted, and also the make and model boat helps. Then you will get all the info you need.

Generally speaking, most stingers are made from plywood or 2x something. if you want to use ply, then doubling up 1/2 or 3/8 should be fine to replace a 2x4 stringer. If you use pressure treated, make sure it has time to fully dry first. I reccomend you nail it to the wall of your garage so it doesn't warp when drying out. Leave space behind it for air circulation.

Cedar is fairly rot proof wood, so if that is what was used in your boat, my impression is that it is a quality built boat to start with.

Looking forward to the pics.

Mark.

1sttime, I do not like to use plywood for stringers. It is prone to delamination, should water get to it. At least solid lumber rots slowlyd:). I second Mark's recommendation of dry Pressure Treated solid lumber.
