Should I go roller????

I just purchased my 1st boat, a 1986 4winns 190 Horizon with a cracked 305. I was looking at replacing it with a 350 long block from RapidO Marine. Is it worth it to upgrade to a roller 350 (87'-95')? any HP/torque benefits? Also, debating whether to upgrade the intake and carb. All suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Re: Should I go roller????

I talked to Raul today at RapidO Marine. I'm going to have him build a '87-'97 roller 350. With flat top pistons and bored .030 over should it be approx. 285hp which is under the 300hp limit of mine Alpha 1. I will however need a different intake manifold. He mentioned the GM high-rise cast intake manifold is good choice. Where can I get this intake???? All the high-rise intakes that I have found, GM & aftermarket are aluminum. Also, I thought high-rise intakes were better for high rpm horsepower and not low-end torque?

Sorry I didn't get here alittle Sooner.....

You may want to Call Back,+ change your mind....
Other than the New Intake,.....
You'll be needing a Flywheel Too........
There's a change in the Crankshaft Bolt Pattern between 86,+ 87.....

Is it worth it to upgrade to a roller 350 (87'-95')? any HP/torque benefits?

To the 350,..... Ayuh, Sure Is.....
To the Roller Cam,..... Nope,.. Not Really........

If the 305 has a 2bbl.,........
I'd go to the 4bbl. whether you go with the Pre-87, or the post-86 motors,.......
I don't have any #s handy, but I Know that GM,+ Merc. used the Cast Iron High-rise manifold,......
They probably still list it, or ebay would be a Good place to look......
The Pre-87 manifolds are reasonably Plentiful on the used market,+ the Post-86s are Common enough to find.......

The Cast Iron High-rise is Alot Better than the Low manifold, yet Way Short of a typical Hot Rodder's Aluminum High-Rise Manifold..........

They're a Good Torque maker..............

Open cooling system. What pitch prop should I go with? With an estimated hp 270-300 and I'll be pulling skiers and tubers a lot.
