fireman, I agree with you something needs to be done and I get on and argue myself, but alot of possitive things get lost, they are simply over run by a few that turn ever thread into a politic argument. We have a simular problem on mechanical threads where good advice covered up by 5 or 6 padders build there count their advce is embassing and the site is looseing some really excellent mechanic advisers to the BS going on over there. I have no idea how to fix it but that don't mean it don't need fixing a couple years back I recommended this site to everone with a interest in boating, thats what it was about but with the changes, I just keep my mouth shut as far as recommending it--Bob

Hey Bob, BTW thanks for your help on my Mercury questions. I really appreciate it. Why is the number of posts a big deal? Makes zero difference ta me. But maybe there is some sort of bene I am unaware of, (other then the rank deal, which again does not mean much ta me). Thanks again, JR

I guess I don't frequent these forums that much, or I just don't see the forest for the trees, but I don't see too many examples of people turning an otherwise nonpolitical topic political. I see a bunch of political topics, and numerous non-political ones as well.

I've yet to see one morph from one to the other.

I disagree with the thread starter. There are other sections of this forum that are never political and not about boats directly, so go there. DC is an area for people to express their opinions about everything, including politics.

Politics is always a heated topic. If you don't want to participate in the debate then don't reply to the thread. Just keep reading down the line. Nobody is making you reply to any of these threads.

If people are leaving because of some riff in DC then let them go. They can very easily share their knowledge of mechanics or what have you in the "non boating technical topics" section of this forum.

Once again I agree with you Water! 8)8)

Back when I found this place,........

I found it Because of the Engines, I/O forum.....
And the Restoration Forum,+ the General Boating forum,+ the Trailer forum,+ the Tech, Non-boating forum........

I sometimes Heard about this place called "The Cellar".....Back then, it Was at the Bottom of the Main Page.....
It was only after a Slow period in the other forums that I finally ventured Down here,.......
It's a Great Place to hear about the Latest Scams going around the Internet, Check out some of the Tamer Jokes going around....
Or,.........
Jump into the middle of the Usual Political "Discussions" going on,......

Just like Any Other forum on the net,.....
Nothing says you Have to click on Any, or Every thread,......I Know there are Many threads that for some reason,.. I Don't click on.......

I like the community down here,..... It gives me something to do in these Long Cold Winters.......

We do not need to rename DC, but maybe a few posters should add some humor once in awhile instead of trying to degrade others with their politcal stance that really means nothing on Dock Side other then blowing steam and not solving anything in city, state or government issues

It's just my opinion!!! 8)

Re: Renaming Dockside Chat

ok, no politics allowed, just as no politics are discussed on a real dock?
I see no problem, all know each other (I'm new), and I see ribbing each other occurring during a "heated" debate.

Go back and look at the second reply, OMR.

You didn't post that, and I have accused you of nothing.

On the other hand, dost thou protest too much?

I really don't see anything wrong here at all. Why not have a place to vent? I don't see any REAL anger here just good old American disagreement. Thankfully that has not been banned yet.

Personally I get some good entertainment (at times), other times it's boring so I move on. There are still many other topics posted that are non-confrontational.

Like the old expression "if you don't like the heat in the kitchen....."

I believe that I acted like an adult on that one too.

As do I, and I commented that it spoke well of you that you went the extra distance.

I don't label folks and I try not to offend them.

On some of the topics of this forum I have not formed an opinion and like to read the thoughts and experiences of others. Some of my opinions have been influenced by DC.

I too dislike the name calling and condescending tone that seems to creep in. Those that adopt that position usually influence me away from their point of view.

From your first post on the topic of "Renaming Dockside Chat":

If this is done then maybe people won't be blindsided when they open topic that is not labeled with a political subject line.

Like this one? From your second post:

fireman57 said:
Haut, if you read the whole thing I didn't call anybody any names and did not attack anyone. I gave succinct reasons for my dislike of Hil. I don't dislike Obama ....

Anyone else digging the irony??...this very thread turning political?? I'm loving it...

Now, related to the topic...I agree with the "don't get in the ring unless you willing to take a few punches" comments...and I also think that if you just refuse to get personal and argue "below the belt" you can turn it around. Recently, I myself was debating with someone, CJY maybe, and I flat out posted that if it was going to deteriorate into that kind of discussion I would lose interest (or something to that effect) and he and I brought it back up above the belt. Our discussion resumed, and was getting good and then some guy named "harmonica" or something showed up out of nowhere, things went off-topic, full-on nuts and someone locked the thread - but CJY and I maintained civility...sometimes you have to be the guy to bring it back...sometimes you have to ignore the "bait"...

Personally, I think they SHOULD start a new forum for several people here. Here's a screenshot...

Maybe my undies r' gettin' tooooo snug: VERY SORRY, (n' it's particularly embarrisin' since I actually like hard ball n' try to be tough as nails if I get spanked). Please accept my HUMBLE appology! I Know he wasn't jokin' Crunch. The "Harmonica" handle, (in fact the whole post just cracked me up). 8)8) That same jimonica has posted against me with some bazar stuff too, and he does not answer his drive by hits. I just took his (Bjcsc's) post as very very funny, (as humor seemed to be an intention on his part) especially: "Harmonica" JR

I just knew you were my kind of MAN Bond-o. Stand up like a man and say what ya mean. If strong opinions hurt your delicate little feminized feelings, stay in the mechanical forums. There is room for all of us here, that is what has been great about iboats.

You think it is tough here? Read American history (oh, I forgot, they haven't taught that for 30 years) and see what has gone on in the halls of Congress.

Yeah, let's think of some PC name to replace DC with. Yeah, wouldn't that just fit in with the times?

Re: Renaming Dockside Chat

How about 'Moderates Forum'. That would certainly be in vogue. It would work well for those that are afraid to form a strong opinion and those that don't have the conviction to have one.

You do know that not having a strong opinion is the currently perceived ticket to valhala?

Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to saunter over to the I/O forum where strong opinions are still acceptable.:p
