New Johnson 15 HP 2-stroke - good for wife?

I've currently got a brand new Honda 15 hp 4-stroke that is a very nice engine, but has one major drawback - compression is so high my wife can't start it by hand. I'm thinking of trading for a 2-stroke, which I'm anticipating would be easier for her. The Johnson is attractive because it's so light that she'd have little trouble tilting it out of the water. I'd appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks in advance.

Why not add electric start and make it easy on both of you? The two stroke does not need much battery - I can start mine with a small motorcycle sized one.

Is there an electric start kit available for the Johnson? I would have bought one with the Honda if I'd known I was going to have this problem. Unfortunately, Honda doesn't offer a conversion kit.

Back to the original question, though. What's the Johnson like to start by hand?

Part 586398 is the 2007 Electric start kit for the 2 stroke 15HP.

It is less expensive to have it on the motor when you buy it than to have it installed after the purchase.

or if you talk to a honda mech. see if you can figure out what parts you need to convert it part by part. then consider cost plus aggravation, and a new one. or trade for a new honda with elect start.

My Johnson is just like my wife:

1. Always cold in the morning
2. Never know how it is going to act
3. Costs me alot to upkeep
4. Just when you think everything is running smooth, she goes and blows her top. (depending on which top , could or could not be a good thing).

Good luck with your issue though. I bet an electric start would be ideal.
