Hey guys I have a 90HP 2003 Merc. Has anyone used or have any input on the SeaFoam that you put in the gas? Thanks

Re: SEAFOAM

I've used it for years. It is a great decarb agent and it will keep the fuel system clean. I use it in my cars, tow vehicles, and all my small engines. I add a full can to my boat in the spring and then cut back to 1/2 can for preventive measures in each tank after that.

Also does a great job of clogging the screens on the fuel recirc. valves.

Boy, did that take a while to find.

Re: SEAFOAM

Alden, If SeaFoam clogged anything, it was because you had a problem that the product was trying to fix.. If you don't currently run ethanol blended fuel, wait until you run a few tanks of that and you can blame those resulting problems on the fuel as well. Ethanol and SeaFoam and virtually any other fuel system cleaner will clean fuel systems. Unfortunately the big chunks will get stuck in the little places. Once everything is cleaned up though, continuing to use the product will ensure you don't have that problem again.

Re: SEAFOAM

Alden,

Seafoam is basically just naptha and isopropyl alcohol, which are used as a solvent and water absorber. That solvent probably loosened some junk in your fuel system.

I would agree with bruceb58. When I first started using seafoam I did find particles in the filter, but once cleaned out, it's been an awsome product to use.

Re: SEAFOAM

It helped my '02 90 to run smoother. Keep it in the fuel now. Personally I prefer to buy it already ready for use. I would have to get new (clean) containers for it, go to a naptha store, get the right naptha, get some alc (hope it was pure enough), mix them up, mark the containers, store it, and all that stuff to do it myself..... and hope I did it all correctly. Too much hassle for me.....butttttttt there those who choose to do it. Great!

Re: SEAFOAM

so getting the kind you put in the fuel is the best? Not the spray?

Re: SEAFOAM

I just buy the can of naptha from home depot and put a couple ounces directly into the tank. I don't bother mixing anything.

I only posted the above to save someone else the trouble I went through after using the seafoam. If you use it and then find your engine runs like crap, check the fuel recirc. valves.

Seafoam goes in every gas engine I own. I do not have issues with fuel.

Re: SEAFOAM

As I said before, giving my '64 Perkins Diesel Tractor a GI series (heavy doses in fuel and oil just prior to oil change) with it saved me from an engine overhaul this year. Same with what I thought to be worn out weed eater, push lawn mowers, and chain saw.....and to think I blew it off when I first joined the site, when the old salts said use it. Live and learn.

Re: SEAFOAM

Hey guys,

What is the mixture of naptha to alcohol if you wanted to mix your own? The reason I ask this (and it is a great reason...LOL!) is because I live in Canada, and I have searched all over my city, and no one seems to carry it. I googled it and it can be found in other canadian cities but not mine I guess.

So if you would be so kind as to tell me the recipe for the homemade seafoam, then I would surely be thank-ful.
