How can you coat a fixed tank in a boat? Is it light enough to pick up, shake it around and flip it over to coat all 6 sides? Get going with the sawzall

The only additive I can think of is adding a new tank....

Change em and get it over with. The coating project will get too involved and will pi** you off in a short space of time.....then you will replace them after that.
Just my humble opinion !!!!

I already decided that a replacement is going to be the only way to go. Funny thing is that a guy 2 marinas over from me has the same boat. He replaced the tanks and when he cut them open one was perfect and the other was falling apart. The falling apart one was only bad at the bottom. I wonder if phase seperation accelerates the damage to the tanks? I believe in phase seperation the ethanol precipitates out of the fuel. Possibly that's what happened to this guy and that's why only one tank failed? Dunno.

Well, how are you going to replace them? If you can get them out to replace them and install a new tank, then you can coat the tanks right?

BTW- what is a FIXED tank? I have yet to see anything that went in that couldn't come out. Sometimes it takes a bit of work but the tanks are not intrinsic to the hull.

From what I understand some of the manufacturers, Bertram amongst them, actually used adhesive in conjunction to mechanical fastenings to secure the tanks. PITA to remove, I've heard. I'm still curious if phase seperation accelerates the damage to the tanks. Stu

if phase seperation :)

Your filter will clog ASAP and stop the motor giveing you plenty of time to pump it out from the tank bottom

Tommays, you sound like you speak from experience. I keep my boat on Long Island-the Brooklyn end. Have you heard of any horror stories? My neighbor, the one whose tank came apart, had filter clogging problems first. Probably what saved his engine as everytime he changed the filter and tried to go out fishing he never made it too far. I have not had it bad BUT i trailer :) and only burn about 20 gallons a week in a 36 gallon tank

With the old REAL gas i just needed to remove a fitting a suck off the bottom of the tank when i start to get water in the filter

Now when i change it and poor it into a glass jar it does not settle out like it use to

You have to just keep and eye on the filters and see how it plays out for you this season
