Johnson 25hp outboard help

I have a problem. The motor has sat for quite a while. I have taken it to a mech. and he has told me he can get it running and idols good. when he goes to give it some juice it bogs down. Some times it will run great for a short period of time. then when it idols back down and he gives it juice again it bogs out. Anyone have any suggestions at all? I cant afford to keep paying him by the hour so I think I am going to have to take it somewhere else to do it my self. I think it could be a seal causing it to loose compression but want some other tips before i go that deep in the motor. Please help!

See if there is a 1" X 3" plate on the side of the bracket that holds the motor to the transom. If so there should be a model number and a serial number. We will need to know those numbers.

If the plate is missing, look around the engine block for a Quarter- sized aluminum disk which may also have the numbers.

BTW, You may have a loose flywheel.
