The wild plum down at the corner is in bloom!

House wrens are nest building in my porch birdhouses.

Haven't seen anything in bloom yet, but I noticed the Eastern Towhee's gathering debris for their nests and the Mockingbirds are engaging in turf battles.

All the Almond orchards are in full bloom and daylight savings time is less than two weeks away.

The cottonwoods dropped 13 inches of seeds, and the coyotes were trying to dig a deer carcass out from under a huge drift of seeds.

Neat, nothing like the sound of birds chirping.
Sounds like spring is just around the corner for you.

The one thing we miss do to remodeling. Our house has a flat
roof and for the first 15 years living here sparrows always nested above our bed with only 1/2" sheet rock between them and us.
We would always wake up to the soft sounds of baby chicks
being feed at 4-5 am getting ready for work.

After bringing the house up to code.
We tore out the insulation between two rafters and drilled
holes in the overhang to get them back.
Plus when it rains we can fall asleep to the rain drops.

It might sound weird for people who worry about keeping a house energy effective.. but it works for us.

Sort of the best of both worlds.

I-80 west of Des Moines is closed well into Nebraska. We call that spring in Iowa.

I started to hear the birdies over a week ago, then they got spanked down by a series of snowstorms that dumped way too much snow on our butts. Now the melt has to start all over again. Forecast calling for 50's this week. I pray, because they called for warm temps the week before last, and we ended up with a bunch of snow. Yawn....

Re: First signs.

For us it was just a personal choice.
Let us hear the birds chirping and the rain falling.
When we sell.. fill it in with insulation and put the bird blocks back up.
A trade off if you well.. But our choice. :)

Another first sign - the ground is white this am - must be spring.

The azaleas are starting to bloom and the red buds already have. We've spent the last two weekends planting trees, shrubs and flowers. Our plum tree's blooms have dropped and its already putting out leaves.

The winter algae in the bay is beginning to lift and move on out.
