If this is a subject that has been beaten to death I will apologise in advance. I have a 1989 Sea Nymph 18 foot sportfisher...I currently have it carpeted but that has just become one huge pain in the butt. The under flooring is 3/4 inch 7 ply marine ply that is bone dry because of inside storage. Has anybody ever used roll on rino lining to creat a floor covering? It sounds like a no brainer to me but I am worried about putting on wood, The container and advertisment states that it is ok to use on a wood application but was wondering if any of you guys have had any luck?,,,,Looking for a good hose out scub down floor for this boat.....any other sugestions? As always thanks in advance! Stuart

Re: Rino Lining for boat flooring?

I wouldn't have carpet in a fishing boat, tiller. It holds water against the floor and it comes to stink.

Though all of my Whalers have had textured fiberglass floors, if I had a conventional bass or walleye boat it would use the rubberized roll on coating, like Rinoliner, except I would use a light color, not black.

I have seen several boats lined with that stuff and even a few 'toons using it instead of carpet. Easy washdown, quiet and clean.

hate carpet, has no place in any boat. there are several floorings available. make sure the rino is not too rough for bare feet. and is UV compatible. some aren't.

Is the Rhino for Trucks beds? If it is then I would find something made for boats specifically. Good Luck.

I just put down some of the Interlux Interdeck. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

HUH thanks all, I will agree with all of you guys....2-3 years ago I would have argued the point about carpet in boats...but now that I get older and ahemmmm wiser I want to soap that floor up and hose it out. I have found several knock off, or similar brands to rinoliner available in greys and briliant white....wondering if the briliant white will not cause eye burn on those crazy hot days? My grand father had a 32' Wooden Post that he painted the work deck Briliant white and we hated him for it !!!LOL? Thanks all for the sugestions I will let you know the result!

Re: Rino Lining for boat flooring?

One thing to note is most bedliner product's fade terribly after a few year's, That is they turn from black to a light grey or from white to yellow. I guess it might not be fair to make a one shot all inclusive statement like that but ive never seen a liner yet that retain's it's colot after more than 3-4 year's and i see a lot of truck's.

8) However when i finished laying in some stringer's a while back i did shoot bedliner over the finished product........

I was thinking along the same lines for the new floor in my boat. Rhino liner comes with a non skid surface in the mix?

I'd just stay away from the color black -- that would be pretty hot in the summer..

Yea LOL I agree black would be like sitting on a hot tin roof! I found some light grey and an antique white that have cought my eye? I am going to spend some extra prep time to smooth out the joints and fill the screw heads to make for a polished finish......Looking forward to not having to scrape chicken liver out of the old carpet! It smells like....welll you know!

Bass and Walleye boat magazine did an article on this a few years back. Lined an old jon boat to seal a few rivet leaks, make non skid surface, and cut down noise.
I remember one drawback was weight.
Might not make a difference in your application, but something to think about.

I might be inclined to seal the deck with epoxy first..

Re: Rino Lining for boat flooring?

I just got done using duplicolor's role in bed liner. Went in great. so far I love the feel over carpet, and cleanup is so much easier as I'm still working on somewhat restoring the boat. I'm planning on putting in some small snap in floor mats where your feet go to keep the black I used from getting too hot. I don't really have much floor that sees the sun anyway so it's no big deal for me.

Re: Rino Lining for boat flooring?

Durabak makes a roll on coating very similar to rhino
It is available in a non-skid with little ground up rubber,or is available as a catalized coating that is uv stabilized. I have used both versions the non-skid in my jeep and I coated all the plywood for my seat supports with the uv protected . it dries very hard and should work good as a waterproofer. I rolled on both times with a 4 in roller and touched up with a cheep brush( throw aways) clean up is with xylene. I would recommend using gloves and throw away clothes. It took about 2 weeks to wear off my hands when I didn't use gloves.
It never comes off clothes. Got a pair of green striped jeans been washed dozens of times ! I recommend durabak over the Duplicolor from walmart. I used it on a plywood box i built for my Jeep and it did not cover as well , also smells very bad, still after 6 mo has odor.
I think the durabak was $125 for a gallon of the catalized uv coating and about $90 for the non-skid beadliner, both came with 2 roller heads to apply with.
