Re: Fun at the ramp

yesterday we were transferring our ski's off single trailers, onto and newly acquired double trailer. 1st ski went fine. 2 nd would not start, so we launched it (forget the plugs), nephew went to change trailers to the double. nearly sank the sucker. no damage, but a couple of more minutes, and it would been too late. no beach to beach it.

Looked as if his front wheels were locked. Other wise, in the second pic, when his back wheels started spinning he would slide backwards.

A couple of amigos in the bed of the truck would have helped.

Mabe if he had ever driven in some snow, he would've know what to do when the tires are slippin. You would think after slamming the gas the first few times it would have occured to him that wasnt the best thing to do.

Ramp didn't look too bad, except it was smooth concrete. The morons were just backing in way too far. If trailer had had a tongue a foot or two longer the truck would not of even needed to be near the water.

I wonder how long the rear differential lasted after that stunt?

Wow!!! I cannot even fathom how you would end up with your truck THAT FAR into the water.

Couple things
I agree a couple Imigo's in the back would probably have helped. If the driver would have just backed up about two feet then gave it a little gas that would have probably got them out of there. They were way too far in the water in the first clip. In the second clip. It does look like a poor ramp. The problem is caused by the idiots who power load their Boats. They wash the sand away from the last concrete strip and that causes a ledge. That is what the driver was caught on in the second clip. By backing up and getting a litttle running start he could have hurdled the concrete edge. Mind you I don't mean gun it but just get a little running start. I launch a 20 footer and with the long trailer tongue my truck exhaust NEVER gets into the water.

Humorous yes, but as a noob myself, and already wearing one boat ramp funny story - mind you this is after all of 3 launches... I am struck not by the inepitude of the folks trailering, but by the unhelpfullness of the folks that gathered to watch. It strikes me that someone could have just as easily unhooked their trailer & drove down to the dock to pull the guy out! It would have taken less time than walkin down there with a camera and filming the entire ordeal, only to call him a "dumb ***." If the truck had fallen off a ledge and sank itself and the trailer this guy filming would probably be saying wow, what a great video I got. When in fact what he should be asking himself is why didn't I offer to help...

You make an excellent point. I've helped a number of people at the ramp, and have a tow chain in my vehicle to help someone in a really tight spot. However, there are exceptions to this.

A few times, I've offered to help someone who was having major difficulties at a ramp, and been rewarded by being told to perform an impossible sex act on myself. Some folks, I guess, get their masculinity threatened if they accept help from anyone. Those folks I simply let stew in their own juices after offering assistance.

Most people, though, are grateful for assistance if they're having real problems. It's easy enough to help out, and that speeds up the traffic at the ramp...always a good thing.

Re: Fun at the ramp

Down our way the ramps are super busy on a holiday weekend. So I don't even bother to try and use the ramps.
Instead, the wife and I go to the ramp with a picnic basket and lawn chairs.
We set up near the ramp but out of the way about 5pm and get comfy for the show.
It gets pretty hilarious to watch the three times a year rookies pull their boats out when they are drunk and tired.

I also take two strips of expanded stainless steel sheet metal about 18" wide and 8' long. They have rescued many rookies from the slippery ramp when they can't pull out with their under rated tow vehicle.
I thro them under the vehicle in front of the rear tires and they walk right out.

We usually come home with enough beer from the grateful ones to last us a week or two.
