Bro-In-Law gave me an OLD outboard he thinks is a 30s-40s Evinrude. The only ID on it is a small metal tag with two rows of numbers; 626 64 and 3658921
It's single cyl., air cooled. I have pictures if anyone is interested. It has good compression but no spark, probably the coil. It's probably not worth messing with but I love to fiddle.

Re: Antique Evinrude

If it is a 626, then it is a 1932 25HP Evinrude.

I cleaned a bit more paint off the tag and it says
T-626-64
3658921
It's sure not 25HP. Probably 3. I'm trying to attach a photo

Re: Antique Evinrude

That would be a Techumseh powerhead used on a variety of brand engines, mostly Eska. But never an Evinrude.

Thanks for the info. Could I send you a couple pictures? I can't seem to post them here. Drop me a note at brcr11@yahoo.com if it's OK. Bob Ritter

Bobritter,

You need to upload your pics to a free webhosting site...I use Photobucket.com. First you need to sign up (don't worry, it's free). Then you need to upload your photos you want us to see. Then copy the tag (it is the third in the series of I.D. tags). The paste the [IMG] tag on here and wham, bam thank-you maam, you have a picture showing up on here....LOL! Good Luck!

Here is Bob's motor. It is a Tecumseh powerhead on a lower unit which I can't identify. Maybe a Mono? Built around the early 1960's I would guess. Definatly not an Evinrude.

Yeah, definately a tecumseh powerhead...so I would have to say air-cooled? No water intake out pisser? There should be many easy parts for it with the lawnmower business'? Check with a lawnmower company about that coil for the ignition...Good Luck

Looks like a Commando - could be any one of a half dozen generic air-cooled motors of that era. Loud, buzzy little buggers... I'll look in my Peter Hunn book this evening and double check...
