Hey guys! My family is pretty new in the iboating scene, and I had a few questions I thought I could ask you guys about boat ownership and such. If you could just answer the poll and leave some feedback that would be fantastic!

Thx boys!

Alright, who voted on the blank ones? :=

iboatChick,

We desperately need more female members, so I wanna be really nice. With that said, this looks a lot like something different than a family poll . . . Tell us more.

Many of us here do all of our own work so service is not important. I look at reviews only for speed/fuel info or any glaring weaknesses. But I figure I am gonna make the boat right for my family anyway, so I am not necessarily concerned with things that I can change. On the other hand I consider the power package as a feature, so that was a huge part of my decision, also big things like deadrise, length etc. are important and I kind of lumped them together.

Of course price matters, if things are closer to what I want, I'll pay more. If I am going to have to put a lot into her, then price needs to be lower. My .02 Welcome to iboats!

well these are the basic questions we would ask ourselves when buying a car, but I understand a boat is very different lol. Thx for your reply QC!

Welcome IboatChick. What type, size of boat are you looking at? How many people will be onboard and what type of recreation are you going to do with it?

No, iboatchick, I think we select boats pretty much the same way we select cars. . . and guns

I spent years trying this boat and that boat, then I found a boat make that truly satisfied my highest priorities. I have stuck with that brand (Boston Whaler) pretty much since. I have had 7, ranging from 11 to 18feet and loved them all. The one I have now is a 15. That highest priority is that I feel safe aboard.

Same story with my preferred vehicles and preferred guns. Lots of experience with lots of makes, then settled on one that satisfied me.

Welcome aboard, we really enjoy our girls here, few as you may be. :)

I think boat size/type would make a big difference. The folks shopping for a $200,000 cruiser have very different priorities than those shopping for a $12,000 skiff.

Re: Few questions from a newbie =P

The blank ones are the more pointed questions that should have been asked! Like: I'm looking at Brand XYZ, Model K10 with a 300 HP Zoomfast Outboard. How would you rate its overall reliability? The answer to that question would have significant value if all of the respondents indicated it had poor reliability. Rating importance of price and features is far to relative to be meaningful. As for boat reviews, manufacturers pay dearly for magazine ads to the magazine articles are not about to bad mouth a product. Dealer service (especially distance and reputation) is very important if you cannot perform routine service yourself.

guns, really. gee jb, i don't own any weapons. guess i don't choose my boats the same way as i choose my weapons that i don't have. guess i don't see the relationship there not havein ever owned any weapons. i suppose i really can't comment on that.....cars may be a different story. i do look for the same thing in boats and cars. simple, durable, easy availablilty of parts.

i just shoped for a boat. price range was extra critica for me. if ya can't afford it. end of story for me.

i had bad wood stringers in my old boat. so when i found one w/o wood stingers i was intregued. when i found a boat with a engine and drive that i was at least somewhat familar with, that intriged me thinkin that i may be able to do some of the maint. myself. when the boat i was lookin at was unique. with features not found on other boats. that seemed usefull to me. i was real interested. when it had a engine, drive package that was servicable by the dealer up the street from me if needed. i boougt it........thats what was improtant to me..... time will tell weather i made a good desision or not......
