I inhereted a 1961 Evinrude Fastwin 18H from my dad. Thanks to the people on this forum, I was able to diagnose and replace a worn clutch dog that was making the engine bang and jump. I took the perfectly running motor to the Upper Penninsula with my buddies for a week long fishing trip. After getting the boat in the water and motoring up to our campsite, the prop ran aground in sand. Now it vibrates intolerably in gear at any speed. The pin was bent but didn't shear. Now, here I am again.
The lower unit looks ok. How should I procede to get this thing running again? What I'm really getting at is: Is it fixable by a determined but inexperienced guy such as myself? Is it worth it? How much would the motor be worth as parts? Should I take it in to a shop?
Basically, I'm laid off and really can't afford a different motor, so I'm kind of stuck. :'(Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
note: I have 2 really good repair manuals. Also, the guy who sold the motor to my dad gave me the upper unit from a '68 that was salvaged from a road rear-ending along with a shaft, cowl, and lower gears. He said they should be interchangable with the '61.
So now, its either fix it, or ebay and doomed to forever trolling around w/ my '72 Johnson 4hp Seahorse.
Thanks,
Dan
