I recently bought a Big Twin 30 hp. I replaced the impellar and started her up. She ran great the only problem is I cant get water out of the two water discharge holes. I Checked the impellar key, housing and made sure the grommet met up with the copper intake hose. I have it in a 20 gallon bucket about 4 inches above the intake holes. I even took off the intake bypass cover to get more water to the pump. And I ran a pond fountain pump to the copper intake with the lower unit off to pump water through the hole system to make sure I could run water through the hole thing. Is this all because of the test tank or do I have bigger problems. I can see that the pump housing is not submereged. But I still would think it would be able to suck water up. To cold where I am to put her in the water. Thanks Dan

Get it down in the water far enough to submerge the pump. They are a great water pump but a lousy air-suckin' pump. If it still won't work, get back with us again.

Hi Dan,
To get a prime, the pump should be submerged, otherwise it just draws air...
You should get a good gurgle of water coming out the thumbsized hole in the rear of the leg...

You mean muffs? I don't think they make flushing attachments for your motor anymore. Anyway, they are not a good test for water pumps because they'll force water through even a bad pump. Get a bigger bucket.

submerge the motor about shaft about 1/2 way in a tank. it's got to have water above the pump inorder to pick up. they are not self priming. water has to be there. resently made the biggest mistake of my life selling a 1955 15 hp . joe reeve's carb adjustments can't be beat, in engine faq forum.

Hey tashasdaddy,

I feel for you. I remember when you sold it I was thinking I would never sell that old girl! The boat maybe, but not that old Evinrude. It was a beauty.
