100 HP Golden Meteor Year

Help!!!! Trying to get a motor date for this Johnson of late 60's to (Ithink) early 70's, Near mint, buying with sweet 1960 wood runabout, Seller thinks motor is 1970 or newer, has Electramatic shift (intro in "62). I Know a 100 hp Golden Meteor II was built in 1965; Engine has blue bottom, no nameplate with model number or serial number on it, or seller can't find it after looking on mounting bracket, engine block, etc. And no title- was acquired for unpaid repair bill by reputable long-established repair shop. Anyone know when this motor was first built , or any other way to date it????

It is either a 1966, 1967, 1968 100hp model in all likelyhood.

The 1966 had a belt driven distributor with points.

The 1967 had a belt driven distributor with solid state ignition (no points).

The 1968 had the distributor under the flywheel.

That should pin it down.

Tash..... That link leads to info for the Hydro Electric shift units. That Golden Meteor unit if it is indeed a 1966,67,68, would be the older regular electric shift.
