evinrude 65 '73

I have a 1973 evinrude 65hp and sometimes when I go out the boat starts to bogg down at full speed. It spits and sputters until I back off. It is almost like I am running on 1 cylinder. The fuel pump was rebuilt ( I guess that didn't work) Could it be my power pack / coils? Also, I need a stator because it is leaking the insulation down on the motor would this be the cause?

Absolutly. Leaking stators were a big problem that year. If it's leaking, it's shot and you need a new one. The new ones won't leak like that. Actually, it's a miracle that you can even get it to run.

I have a complete electrical system that i removed from a running '72 65HP Evinrude if that would help.
