Hello All,

Can someone tell me how to install an hour meter? It’s going on a 1993 Bryant 18 ft. boat, It has a merc. Inboard motor. It doesn’t have one on it.

Attach the + wire on the meter to any Purple ignition wire on another instrument (volt meter, Oil press gauge, temp gauge, etc) hook the - wire to any Black ground wire on the same gauge

Re: Install a hour meter

Hi,

I just did the same thing on my boat. Bought a LCD hour meter from digikey.com for about $20. I decided to mount it under the dash to avoid making more holes in the dash.

I put it in a small plastic project box along with a small pushbutton to reset the counter at the end of the season or oil change.

There are quite a variety of different models and cases styles.

Just like Don said, they are easy to hook up.

Good luck,

johnbo

Just a another word.. If you wire it this way the meter will run anytime the ign switch is on. If you dont want the meter to run unless the engine is running you will need to add a oil pressure switch inline.

Does that mean that it can be wired to the oil pressure sensor down by the fuel pump? Does the purple line go there and the black to ground?

I helped a buddy add an hour meter to his 3.0 mercruiser, he didn't want a hole in the dash so I made a bracket and mounted it in the engine compartment, turned out pretty good.
