Suzuki DL140 4 stroke Impellar Question

My brother has this engine that has about 150 hrs on it.(3 yrs old) He said he was not aware that the impellar needed changing every couple of years.(Had not seen in it in the manual) Is this a fact?He fishes mainly in saltwater in the Gulf. I was reading yesterday on this forum where some OEM's recommend changing them as often as yearly for some engines. Just curious. Thanks!

The 140hp 4 stroke Suzi is DF140, I think.

Yes. All rubber impellers should be changed at least every second year, and high hour engines every season.

As far as I know nobody has come up with an impeller material that doesn't age and become brittle eventually.

It is true that some people have run them 4,5 or 6 years without a failure, but a failure when on the water is a serious problem. Changing well ahead of failure is cheap insurance.
