Insurance companies will do whatever they can get away with, in order to lower their risk and increase their profit. Law enforcement tries to abide by the law.

Insurance companys are private corporations and give (buy/bribe) politicians for special consideration.

Police departments are bureaucracys and have to be under the guise of legal propriety.

Actually my comment stemmed from my outrage when I heard that homeland security had set up a checkpoint over on the penninsula & stopped every car.....
They were not looking for a specific individual, mind you....
Washington state law specifically prohibits this type of carp......
Under the 'Patriot Act', the Feds do not have to comply..........:|
& no, they are not all jack booted thugs.......

Well not every insurance company is bad. It's a free market you know, where the best companies rise to the top on the merit of their products and services. We spend our dollars with the good ones and the bad ones either shape up of go out of business.
