Today at work I had one of those "feel good" moments that really make it seem like you made a difference.
I deal in consumer electronics, so that isnt easy to do. Nothing in the store is a "necessity", you can live without everything in the store.
Today one of the people who runs the Boys and Girls club of this county stopped in to replace some things that had broken at their recreation center recently. We ended up giving them the best deal we possibly could on a television, stand, and gaming system. We didnt have the PS2 for them, nor did we have the TV they wanted in stock.
We are getting rid of 70% of our TVs to get new models in, and this was one of them......so we did not have any in the main warehouse in Chicago either (2hrs south). So I offered to get one from one of the other stores in the district. The closest one was about 45 minutes away (South). I got a PS2 from the same store while I was there and took them both to the Boys and Girls club myself to make the delivery myself. (1hr North of the second store).
Had I not done this the soonest that they could have gotten this stuff was 4 weeks out. (The kids knew that the leaders were going to get this stuff and can only assume they were dissappointed when they found out they would have to wait).
I have never seen a group of kids so excited and so thankful in my entire life. They were incredibly gracious and very excited. I hooked it up for them and watched them play for a bit (even played a little with them). It makes me feel good knowing that these kids don't have much, and here I was able to get them something they may otherwise never get to expirience.
