On why people get upset if a woman smokes, drinks or does drugs if she's pregnant, but in the same breath say that abortion is ok? I thought it was freedom of choice. It's her body, correct ? And it's not a human until the child is born, right? So why the problem with the lifestyle she chooses?

Re: Can someone shed some light

A lot of people are primed with the hammer back to criticize what someone else does. A pregnant woman is a prime target.

It's the "If you don't think and behave as I do you are at least wrong and probably evil" syndrome that is too common these days.

Don't know. I'm pro-choice, but a woman smoking crack while pregnant is on my "bottom of the dregs of society" list. As would be a man doing the same thing around her.

This one is going the way of the Titanic.

Would anyone care to help me rearrange the deck chairs?

Could I ask why it's going down? Those are honest questions.

Plainsman, among my many other talents, I was once honored ( I use that term loosely) to be the Equal Opportuity Officer for a battalion of the 1st Cavalry Division. As such, I went to school and was "educated". Re-Educated might be a better description.

In today's soceity there are just certain topics that raise the hackles on some people. While they may be OK to ask or discuss in the correct forum, in may others, or in a public forum, many won't discuss sensitive issues. In addition to race, the big A issue looms way up there on the taboo list of don't ask, don't comment, and for heavens sake, don't tell.

Not passing judgement mind you, just alerting you to the fact that many wouldn't touch this one.

You won't get an intelligent answer Plainsman. It is a paradox that has been fostered by the left. Unfortunately many otherwise conservative people have consumed the Kool-Aid.

"Many" does not include me Gabby!

Today, Glen Beck deigned to invoke the spectre of 'evil' being in control of what goes on today. Oh, horrors. There can't be evil because their is no God of the universe. So said the Left and many of it's fringe adherants.

Hey, Boom, sitting on the boat, enjoying a beverage I would discuss till the wee hours. However, I've seen better men than me go down for something said in an electronic forum that some liberal got their filty paws on and used to their advantage. Once I retire completely, and forego my clearance, Katy bar the door. Till then, some topics I will politely decline to discuss.

Discretion is the better part of valor don't you know.

So they say Gabby, so they say. I guess I have not absorbed that politically correct lesson yet.:%8)

That is good hypocracy Plainsman.

Personally I believe that the unborn deserves life, it should have a mother responsible enough to do all she can to promote a healthy life.

Well, if she gets an abortion the kid is dead. If she does drugs the kid is still born, and likely to be a screwed up freak. I don't know about you, but I think we already have more than enough screwed up freaks running around.

In other words, if she does drugs we have to deal with it later on. If she has an abortion, we don't.

Thanks for the answers. The idea came from a show that had folks upset with pregnant women who were doing those things.

Re: Can someone shed some light

I've never met another human being whose thinking is without prejudice, today we all live in a society ruled by tabloid journalism coupled with a few bible-thumping despots that have contributed a great deal to the "Let's stone them anyway, even if we are sinned" mentality.

I'm quite sure that the pregnant woman did not start her substance abusive behaviour after she became pregnant, there are no good excuses for her diabolical lifestyle choices.

The question i have is, what should be done with this woman who has recklessly put herself in harms way, who has possibly killed or caused irreparably damage to her unborn child?

I do know one thing for sure, that is as a society we will not ever win the war on illegal drugs unless we exterminate the insatiable demand for narcotics.

Let's just say that if she intends to bring the child into the world, then her actions are heinous....
I think ZmOz pretty much summed up my outlook on the subject.......:)
