Re: 1965 Gale 12HP Oil/Gas Mix Ratio
No, it's not yours. It's also older than the owner thought. 24:1 is the correct mix for that engine. While it might survive 32:1, at least for a while, it needs the 24:1 mixture to thrive.
Lots of folks are here on this board who date back to those days. They're worth listening to.
They also give excellent advice. Consider this: 24:1 cannot hurt that engine in any way. It won't even cost much more than your recommendation of 32:1. Why on earth would someone want to take a risk with that nice old Gale?
Well no offense but I also date back to those years, and yes there are excellent advice given on this board worth reading.
That being said (written) please note that I did NOT recommend a 32:1 mix for the Gale ... I wrote a reference to OMC dealers recommendations to 32:1 mix when the 24:1 type ob oil turned out to be NLA ... and that type of OB oil is still NLA ... and mixing 24:1 with 50:1 type oil is simply not the same mix that motor used to know.
I wrote on this boad in the past regarding the higher lubricity of the 50:1 type oil Vs the 24:1 type oil which explained OMC dealers point of view ... at that time
Yes you"r absolutly right ... 24:1 mix with 50:1 type oil wont hurt the Gale ... but it will run richer in oil that it did when using the old 24:1 type oil ... and may produce more smoke and exhaust port carbon ... but it wont get hurt I agree.
This board allows sharing of knowledge, information, and opinions ... In my previous post I thought I shared information (OMC) and opinion (mine) ... no more.
Cheers,
