If your a *cigar snob this may not be for you, but if your open minded and you can find them try the Cojimar Vanillas. It's a flavored cigar with a sugar tip. It's my "go to cigar". I love the flavor and the smell is even appealing to those normally offended by cigar smoke. If you cant find them locally PM me and I'll give you the 800 number of the dealer I order them from.

*a cigar snob is some one who is caught up in magazine smokes, and how a cigar should taste.

I usta be a cigar snob. But I couldnt afford it anymore. Then I went back to cigs for awhile. Quit cigs more than a year ago and when ever I become weak I smoke a "Cuban Sandwich" . Best smoke money can buy. Bought the box more than a year ago.

If I were still a snob I would ras you about the vanilla.....d:)

Re: JB, Pony and any other cigar smokers

I used to favor White Owl Diplomats, LT, but I rarely smoke a full size cigar these days. When I do it is a Cohiba, a Cuban cigar that my daughter brought back for me from Nicaragua. Danged good cigar.

I mostly smoke little cigars now, either Muriel Sweets or Smokin' Joe cherry.

Since Texas added another buck a pack to cigarette taxes (but not cigars) it's a wonder to me that any Texicans still smoke cigarettes. I pay $9.85 for a carton of Smokin'Joes. You can't buy three packs of cigarettes for that any more.

I wasn't an addicted smoker until I joined the Navy. Before that I probably smoked two or three cigs a week, just to be "cool" when hanging out with my adolescent buddies. The Navy issued me a carton of Lucky Strikes on day one and scheduled a smoking break several times a day. By the time I finished Boot Camp I was addicted. That was in 1953. Cigarettes were $.70 a carton in Sea Stores.:'(

If I am going for a little cigar I go with "Gold n Mild" or "Black n Mild". Both are a little sweeter than a traditional cigar, but not so sweet that they are flavored.

If I am going cheap, like I am going camping or golfing and I know I will smoke a couple, I go with "Swisher Sweets" or sometimes "Phillies".

When I am smoking them in a more cigar snob sort of way, there a couple that I like. The "Heaven" brand from a little shop down in Ft Meyers , Drew Estate's "Acid" line (which is the most unique tasteing cigar I have ever had had. Its not flavored, just a VERY distinct.), or just a few random brands from the local smoke shop. I often will buy a sampler pack and then the next time I go will buy a couple of something I like.

Never tried Cojimar Vanillas though, I will see if my local shop has some to try......though I often dont smoke vanilla flavors, or any for that matter. Just sweets.

When I smoke cigars, it has to be Blackstone Cherry cigars. They smell good and taste quite good too.

When you "smoke" a cigar, do you inhale the smoke or just puff on it?

I guess I'd try those, even though I have probably been more of a snob. Thanks LT.

JB,

I too have enjoyed quite a few Cubans and I used to bring some in with me once in a while, but I am too much of a fraidy cat . . . Anyway, do you ever ponder the disrespect for our Country's position on Cuba while enjoying? I do. I know this is a teeny tiny example, but why are teenier examples OK and bigger ones not? Sorry to add a political twist, but this has bothered me before and seems very Dockside chatish to me. Ya know, sitting on a Dock, smoking some Cubans with the guys and someone says "aren't we kinda helpin' Ole Castro out here?" . . .

When I want a quality cigar I don't ask where it was made, QC. I am not at war with Cuba, but I might hesitate to smoke a Columbian cigar. :)

I have one Cuban that I am saving for a special occassion. I smoked a few of them in Florida a few years ago, and they are just wrapped perfectly. They burn incredibly even and are very very smooth. If/When that trade embargo is caput I will be stocking up 8)

When you "smoke" a cigar, do you inhale the smoke or just puff on it?

You certainly wouldnt want to inhale one, in fact I dont think you are supposed to. I just draw it in, "taste it" and puff it back out. Unless the cigar is premo quality its tough to inhale it. IMHO

Interesting rationalization . . . It is illegal to possess contraband, no? Remember, I smoke 'em too, but I always find our own personal lines that we are willing to cross interesting, and it is one of the reasons I often discuss moral/legal/religious values. Ya know, the old "do you consider taking a pencil home from work stealing?" thing. I would have guessed that you would honor the Cuban trade embargo, that's why it caught my attention.

The Cojimars in my humidor are kept company by both Cohiba's and Montechristo's that originally hailed from Cuba. Along with a few Ashtons and a mix of the Drew Estates Acids Pony referred to.

As for the size JB they are offered in the Mini size (3 3/4" with a 26 ring) ten to a "Tin" priced at $9.95 (plus delivery).
I reckon if you enjoy the Swisher Sweet, Milton Cherry, or the flavored Phillies these would be right up your ally. Though they smoke much more refined than the afore mentioned.

QC, smoke'm if ya can find um.

If you do try them I'd love to hear you impression of them. I have handed out boxes of them over the years and not one bad review. In fact at parties where cigars are present I'm constantly being hit up for them.

Oh, I have had a bunch of 'em . . . Like I said, I am chicken now and don't bring them in myself. My favorite cigar period is a Romeo y Julieta Cedros #3, they have those little cedar band. I also like the Montecristo #2 and Cohiba Siglo V. I just thought that JB would stop short of Cubans . . .

I'm not an advid cigar smoker, but when I do have one I like the swisher sweets. I would not even think about a cuban cigar. It's illegal and I won't support that nice guy, Castro.

Re: JB, Pony and any other cigar smokers

My Cohibas are the "La Habana, Cuba" model. They are made in the Dominican Republic from Cuban tobacco and, as far as I know, are not sold in the USA, though Thompson sells many other Cohiba cigars.

They were declared and legally brought into this country by my daughter, a US Navy Officer, returning from a humanitarian mission in Nicaragua.

I feel no more guilt than I did taking photos with a Zeiss camera made in Germany in the late 30s. I find the notion that I somehow break the law or support Castro by smoking Dominican made cigars using Cuban tobacco pretty far fetched.

JB,

All of the major Cuban manufacturers have non-Cuban made cigars as well. Almost all of those are legally sold here. That's not an issue. Charges dropped, at ease 8)
