JB, I know they're great entertainment ! But, doggone !Sometimes its like someone stirred up and hornets nest on my patio when theres so many of them. They nest in a big Ceadar in my yard. The males are fun to watch cause they want to keep all the other away from the feeders. When its all females, they all take turns.

I get those swarms in late summer when there are several broods fledged and many more transients on their way south, EF.

Takes about 5lb of sugar a week to keep them fed, particularly when it is very dry.

Sitting on the porch in the late afternoon with a sundowner and a cigar watching the battle of Britian reenacted at close range is one of my greatest pleasures.

Is it harmful to add food coloring to the sugar water?

It may be, but I doubt that a couple of drops of red or blue matters in a pint of nectar.

"My" hummers have been getting it for 14 years, now.
