Hi all,
so I book some vacation time and decide to invite my brother and his family, my mom and dad, other brother. I book in out most pristine estuary system and we are going fishing. Th entire purpose is to fish and one can only really fish from the boat.
A couple of days ago, two weeks before departure, I get the booking confirmation in the mail which states that a "skippers" licence is required before one can launch at the estuary.
As we do not have any requirement to have skipper licences on inland waters , nor do boats on inland waters need any "seaworthyness" check I initially ignored the statement. Two days later it bothered me so I phoned.
a) I need a skippers licence, by law, a law for that province only.
b) My boat needs to be fitted with bouyancy no less that 30% of the fully laden mass.
It has been rush, rush. The boat is in for the foam and get it back tomorrow. The skippers exam is on Monday evening and I have to pass as I leave on Wednesday.
I'm gonna need a holiday to recover from this holiday. Al that being said I am not anti the licence, I think it is a good thing and variations should be enforced on all water as should seaworthyness checks.
Cheers
