i have a 1982 searay v225. it has a 5.0L mercury engine with an alpha one drive. I bought this boat on ebay last year and it has been GREAT its time for some spring maintenance so i am going to fix all of the nit picky things that i ran into last year. When i am cruising anywhere i have to hold the throttle lever at the desired position, if i let go the boat instantly slows down to an idle (or close to it) I completely disassembled the unit last summer and could find no sign of a tension adjustment. the arm is mounted to the right of the driver on the wall. Any suggestions here would be great!

does anyone know if maybe the spring on the throttle cable on the motor may be too strong? or is there a tension adjustment on the motor that i didn't look at?

THere are no springs or tension adjustments on the engine. There are also lots of different helm controls used. Can you post a picture of the type you have?
