Update on my similar issue:

A. The motor ran just fine on external tanks and the primer bulb does not suck shut.

B. When it first had the issue I did loosen the fill cap to make sure it was venting and it did not help. The primer bulb would still suck shut.

C. I checked the fule hose between the bow tank and motor and there is no restriction.

D. I still believe my issue is a cloged up pick up screen due to the boat sitting for a while with 1/2 tank of bad gas. I believe this becasue when I pulled the pick up hose out of the tank I saw tary varnish on it and also by a new problem that just popped up this last saturday. I now have a leaky lowerunit seal which may also be due to the boat sitting around and it drying out.

Anyways I don't know if this will work, but this is how I am attacking the problem: What I did was to put Por15 Marine Clean in the tank and let it slosh around for 2 days on the lake while I ran it around on external tank. I then Syphoned out the Marine Clean, but I now need to get the remainder of the(Water Based) Marine Clean out of the tank. I was thinking of using a shop vac and sucking as much out as I can and then mixing a few gallons of gas with some dry gas and then syphon it out again. I will then run an additional in-line fule filter and see what happens. It is either that or I'll let it evaporate out and keep running off the external tanks for a bit. If none of this works I will run it on external tanks all season and install a new tank in the off season. After I get my lower unit seals replaced and I have more to share I will update this thread.

Good luck with your issue and keep us informed.

Re: 94 150HP XRi stalled once again after fuel tank gets down to about 10 gallons

Finally got back out this weekend and Studly nailed it. Once again after running the fuel to approximately 1/2 tank the bulb was collapsed in a vacuum, impossible to squeeze and the motor was starving for fuel. I opened the fuel cover and after a few seconds the bulb was back to normal. I gave it a few squeezes and off we went for the rest of the afternoon without a hitch. Now that we know it's a venting problem, I'm not sure how to resolve it. The vent line looks like it connects to the side of the plastic fuel inlet. There is a small opening toward the top of the fuel inlet about 1/4 to 1/2 " in diameter. At first glance I thought it was the vent, but when the fuel cap is snapped closed, the O-ring on the underside of the cap covers both the fuel filler tube and the small port, so to me it appears to be a closed fuel system. Is there another vent line somewhere else? I can only see the three hoses coming off of the fuel tank; a larger hose from the fuel inlet to the tank for filling the tank, a smaller hose that appears to connect from the tank to the small port on the fuel inlet and lastly the fuel line to the engine. I could be wrong, but I think I remember sucking fuel from a full fuel tank through the small port using vacuum from squeezing a flexible turkey baster thingy (I don't know what else to call the thing but it's handy).

Studley... I have not seen anything that looks like a vent coming through the hull and nothing that looks like that. I guess I'll have to look a little harder. I hope your problem gets some attention.

I think I found a post from 2002 that answered my question. My only vent line feeds back to the filler tube and there is probably fuel in the vent line. I'll evacuate the line and see if I get any fuel out. Here's a link to the 2002 post: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=119417
