CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- President Hugo Chavez said Sunday that his administration plans to create "collective property" as part of sweeping reforms toward socialism, and that officials would move to seize control of large ranches and redistribute lands deemed "idle."

The Venezuelan leader, speaking on his television and radio program "Hello President," said the government was "advancing quickly" with a concept of "social, or collective, property" to be included in forthcoming constitutional reforms.

"It's property that belongs to everyone and it's going to benefit everyone," said Chavez, who vowed to undermine capitalism's continued influence in Venezuela.

Yea I think he got his wording backwards.

On that note though PW, Saudi Arabia has very little actual refining capacity in their own country so if nobody buys their oil they go down fast. They actually import gasoline and other processed oil products, so I've heard.

We have a lot of oil left. The most recent estimate is at least 80 years without tapping into the coal oil supply in this country which I've heard could keep is oil independent for decades, although it would be a bit pricey.

My father works in the oil industry for the federal government, so I trust his words that this "running out of oil myth" is just that, a myth cooked up by someone to justify the production of ethanol, driving the cost of corn up several hundred percent in the process.

Hugo Chavez's days are numbered, he can only lie to some of his people all of the time, fulfilling most of his promises to them are a pipe dream.
He may want to be like Fidel, but he ain't no Fidel Castro.

The collapse will come long before the oil runs out. Hugo has already pillaged the funds that had been earmarked for maintenance, upgrades and exploration. Over time, the pumping wells and infrastructure WILL break down. As production falls, money dries up. And who in their right mind would invest in a country led by someone who has already shown that he has NO respect for private property?

Given time when it becomes appropriate, our government would then act to protect our national interests.

...actually, Hugo is only doing what the American Elite Left would die to be able to do. The un-argueable fact is that the Clintons already tried to do it with 15% of the American economy. But the rank and file never bother to connect the dots.

Countries generating mass wealth yet majority of their peoples struggling to survive, not to mention a little corruption here and there.
I don't think I am a racist (try not to be anyway) but if your skin is not white and your eyes not round, you seem to have trouble building a society just and fair to all your citizens, irrespective of the amount of money you have flowing in.
Not meaning to antagonise anyone. Just the way it seems to me.

Funny you should say that.It seems that the Japanese,the Koreans,the Thais,Singapore, Malaisia,India and today China are getting along nicely without the white man to supervise them.Even South Africa has not fallen apart since majority rule kicked in over there. It would probably not be very smart economically for Australia to insult any of its quite successful trading partners

This morning when I went shopping I saw the van that picks up yesterdays bread in order to distribute it in the soup kitchens in my very own American city.At the cash register I can buy coupons for $1.47 in order to give a poor inner city child a meal.
What I am trying to say is that as long as we don't have it right ourselves,we should not criticize others based on skin color
