I have a 68' Merc 1000 with wiring problems. Some days it'll run fine other days I have to wiggle the cable to make it fire. The exterior cable I can touch and the copper wires fall apart, and the iner cable the copper is fine but the insulation just falls off... :'( I know I can purchase an exterior cable for around $200 from here. Is there a place to purchase the inner cable as well?
But, my thinking is to cut the cable back where it is under the boat coverings and not so brittle and make my own cable from there. The cable making is not a problem, however I have yet to figure out what kind of 7-pin connector to use that is water proof, and has 2 pins that are capable to carring enough current for batt wires. So far the only solution I have come up w is a 7 blade RV to Truck connectors and attempt to seal everything with rtv but first grease all the pins with lots of non conductive grease so as to keep pins from corroding. The female part will fit into the existing hole w/ little modification.
Any ideas for a 7 pin waterproof connector w/ 2 pins big enough for batt current?
Thanks,
Al
