hey folks. well, i finally did my first mod on my boat. i'm a pretty poor boater, so mods don't come to fast. it's pretty much if i can have the funds to keep her runing i'm doing good. so today i feel pretty good. R&Red my 8 track player with a used after market panasoic cd player out of my buddys saturn. even has mp3 and sirrus radio capabilites. got the radio for christmas from my buddy. another bud put me onto some panisonic 6.5" speakers instead of the kracklo speakers i had. instead of sirrus i think i'm gonna hook up the antenna i got pre mounted on my ol aristocraft instead for am fm type reception. antenna even has a spring ontoit, oh joy. i am happy. it's my first mod to my ol boat since i got it in sept. last year. i figure most of the battle is keepin it runnin and in ship shape. the mods come later...and i'm modin. so i'm happy.........even though i didn't get out today, should have as the weather turned nicer than i thought it would, but oh well, i made a dime while i wasn't out bein a slacker. ended up modin and swillin beverages after the facts instead............any body else feel like they're in the same boat? i'm hopein the next mod will be to get rid of the cb radio and antena, for a vhf.....that's gonna cost me so we'll see about that....

snicker snicker. well,,,,,,,,,i'm thinkin safety here. i boat on the missouri river. it's got pretty fast current and i've had at least 2 close calls that'd make ya think twice. sinkin or loss of drive were a possiblilty in these instances. i don't need a gps to know where i am as i'll float by a mile maker in mile or so. but if i ever had anything catastrphic happen. there are plenty of big azz cruisers, + the coast gaurd that patrol the river. i might have a hope of gettin out to someone if i had a vhf.....least that's my thinking. i've camped in places that are so remote, that i'd probably only get someone if that someone had a vhf onboard and was cruisein by, it is low in the vally. but i figure i'd be better with a vhf than being absolutly sol w/o anything. others have vhf on the river. the cb that i got with my ol boat is worthless........... was a good question though........why bother that is on inland waters...hope i answered that.......

Good work Ziggy! Enjoy the tunes. Safety sould always be first if you ask me, if that is how you could contact the CG or other boats, then get the VHF

agreed. i have boated many lakes. but nothing compares to the river. it seems most hazardos to me. currents that'll swirl and suck ya down and drown ya, with yer pfd on too. hopelesslesy filthy dirty water. come off the ramp into planein speeds just to keep up with the current. river level fluctuations of a foot or more overnight, dead head debris. wakes off cruisers that'd swamp a reg. fishin boat.....just a few of the hazards........can't wait till them darn asin carp make it up my way....pretty soon too i think......:( they've been noted at the entrance to the platt river, 5 miles so. of where i like to launch at, at bellvue.......oh well, if i don't run my engine, and only listen to my tunes i'll be ok......maybe......

I never boated in the Missouri, but I lived in Bellevue about 40 years ago when I was in the Air Force.

One time my wife and I were down by the river and saw this guy about 200 feet off shore pulling on his starter rope, all the while heading south at an impressive rate of speed. Last we saw of him he was still trying to get it started. Hope one of the other boats out that day went after him. That is one scary fast river.

hope i didn't say something offensive jb. i don't want to be reported...... it was fun to get the sabre saw out on the ol girl. specially since the hole i cut was just right. even better than my last post. i wired it up today and it even works too...next i'll have to play with buttons as my used, free cd player didn't come with a owners manual and i have no idea how to operate it. got it from my buddy though, so he can show me if i can't get hip.....
yep bassman, the missouri is pretty fast for sure. i really hope i never have issues on it. i think ya could find yerself in a bad way pretty fast and easy. i've read it's one of the faster rivers in the world, though i can't prove where i read that. just something i remember reading from somewhere.......it's speed and danger is part of the high excitment of boatin on the missouri to me though.....still think i should have a vhf though. i started twards it today, kinda sorta. wanted non switched power for the cd player. the old 8 track was switched power, the cb was non switched. the cb is un hooked headin twards removeing it..........more fun to come with the old boat i hope.........
