I have a rig that allows you to replace a Mercruiser exhaust bellows without dropping the outdrive. No new gaskets, o-rings, gear lube, sore back, etc. Worked fine for me. Be glad to send some pictures and discription if anyone would like....

Exhaust tubes? That's news to me-tell me more. I have to replace both my exhaust bellows this yearand if there is a better alternative I'd love to hear it.

I just looked,+ couldn't find a picture of 1,......

But,....
It's a Rubber Tube that mounts to the Boat-side of the Transom plate,+ just Slips into the Outdrive-side, when the outdrive is lowered..........

Yeah, and since Beer intake is directly proportional to the level of frustration, you'll need another "excuse" lined up.

I don't recall as I ever really had all that much trouble putting the exhaust bellows on, and I always did it without removing the lower unit. Use a 1/4" drive flexible socket and an extension to loosen and tighten the clamps. Cut the old bellows off and glue the new ones on, tighten the clamps.

Correct, the exhaust tube only clamps on the transom end. It is slip fit on the drive end. Don't panic, there is no need for a 100% seal on the exhaust.

Re: Exhaust bellows replacement

I've done them all as well, but all I really need to do this time is the exhaust bellows. Although I may wait until they actually start leaking; right now they're just starting to show cracks in between the bellows in the folds.

Ok,ok, I get it, I wasnt thinking, a common problem with us boaters....

Ive never really thought about it and just did it, Every 2 years I pull the drive, install new boots, a new lower shift cable if need be, inspect the gimbal bearing and ujoints, and re-seal the drive. call me paranoid, but ive never had a problem with a leaky boot or a stuck lower cable(knocks on nearest wood) I think I'll stick with my schedule and the 2 clamp boot.
