Have been hacking on these cabinets to get them to fit in the corner like I want. Had to cut the back corners off each of the cabinets. The sides and bottom cut straight as an arrow, the backs were made of light weight stuff that bowed under the weight of the saw and I got crappy cuts. Will hide that with new laminate board. Also screwed 1.5 x1.5 ripped form 2x4 and screwed to the wall to support the table top at the edges. This is where the TV and later a large screen TV will go.

Here is the top on the cabinets. Its 3/4 inch ply with birch veneer and 3/4 round oak glued to the edges. Stained same as computer desk, and again, it should match the furniture in the room. My mistake is there is way too much overhang on the far left of the top. Oh well, at this point I'm not going to change it. The front edge of the top is 54 inches across, enougn to fit a large screen TV after I recoup from the expense of the floor and cabinets.

And here is a shot of the desk with the PC in the left cabinet, and the scanner/fax/printer on roll out tray on the right.

Looking good mark. Don't sweat the small stuff. We're always our on worse critic.

My wife and I are looking into putting down laminate flooring in the next month or so. She told me tonight she was figuring $5K to have it installed. I said "HAVE it installed? You don't think we can do that?" She laughed and said us working on another project together would cause a divorce.

When shopping for flooring, if you are looking at Pergo style laminates, you should also look at engineered hardwood flooring. It goes together like the pergo, can be glued together for floating floor, or nailed to the sub floor. Its genuine hardwood usually 1/4 or 3/8" thick over plywood that is very stable, can be sanded up to 2 times and refinished if needed. Genuine hardwood at premium photo laminate prices.

Looks great! Re-edit your post and drop off the piece you pointed out and NO ONE will ever notice.

This weekend the TV gets moved over to the new corner cabinets. One issue I have is that the sound system uses a sub-woofer. About the size/shape of a mid-tower PC. Wife doesn't want it on the counter top so I'm thinking about putting it inside one of the cabinets. Do you think it will make much difference being inside a cabinet as opposed to behind the TV ?

Mark,

What separates the handy home owner from the professionals is when given a compliment on his work, the do-it-yourselfer goes into the confessional and points out the minor flaws; the professional just says, "Thank you very much and I'll take my $8000 in large bills."

Nice work Mark!!!!!

With your woofer in the cabinet it might be muffled a little but I don't think there will be any other difference.

If it's a sub-woofer it should not matter. Those are usually placed out of the way anyway. I can hear the one in my neighbor's kid's Camaro right now.

Spots, you are right. Putting the sub woofer in the cabinet makes no noticable difference. Although the cabinet doors vibrate when the volume is cranked up, you can't hear them vibrate over the music.

Took me all day to cover where the cabinet corners were cut off, make full depth shelves(with the corners cut off to match), install the stereo/dvd/satellite receiver in the cabinets, cut new speaker wires, install power strip/voltage suppresser, etc. But it is nice to finally have the TV where it is meant to be and everything is hooked up right.

Hey Burroak, I'm not a "handy home ower", I am an "Undocumented Professional". :D

I'll get some more pics up soon.

Get some of those adhesive back felt dots for the corners of the doors. That should help the rattle. If you REALLY like to jam, it may require velcro.

Looks very nice btw!.

Here are the latest updates:

TV is in place, cleaned up some, work bench is out.

Stereo stuff is in left cabinet. Kids like to play in the empty right cabinet. You can see behind Eric how I finished off the corner of the cabinet that was cut off. The wall was visable, so a little masonite and self stick wood grain vinyl made a great pannel to hide the wall. Still have details like adjusting the doors, some wall and floor trim, etc to do.

Another view of desk and entertainment center. Notice the old carpet is still sitting on the deck? When is someone going to get rid of it?

Now for the final phase: Finishing the fireplace. Have to install stone from floor to ceiling between the cabinets and install the hearth tile. The end is in sight!

Mark,

Are you doing work that no professional will do? And, since you are doing this for yourself, I know you are working for reduced wages. Not to worry, I see you have two good looking anchor kids to keep you here.

Yeah, no one gets in or out with being photographed!

Funny to see what the kids photo with their digital camera. They shoot things that are important to them. They take pictures of framed photos. Little Eric is 3, he takes pictures of the inside of the refridgerator, toilet, TV set, lots of pics of his sister, his tricycle, the floor, his shoes, etc. Neat thing is they are all from about the 30" high perspective.

I decided not to do the stonework on the fireplace myself. Found a local mason who did a fabulous job. Check it out:

I like the keystone center over the glass doors, and the limestone shelf below the doors. The limestone was cut from the old raised hearth.
