Air box???

Hello...I just purchased a 1995 Evrinrude 25 hp mod #E25REOR....The engine runs great and looks to be in good condition....125 compression each cylinder....My question is should this engine be equipped with an air box over the carb...I can look directly in the carb n see the flapper ....will it hurt to run engine with out air box....any suggestions where to purchase this item if needed???....Thank You

yes it should, basicly works like and air filter, to keep crap out. it will quieten the carb noise down also. BRP-evinrude doesn't show a part number for it. will have to see a johnny/rude dealer to get part number, then search ebay, tcoutboard.com it really won't hurt to run it, but i would replace it. helps keep the insects from making a home in the carb.

I don't see one at all on their website and don't recall seeing one on any I've worked on. They seem to start at the 40Hp models and up. Most air boxes just help silence the intake noise by directing the intake to the back instead of drawing from the front. I've seen small rodents make nests in other model's air boxes only to have the contents sucked into the carb and either block the butterfly or reeds open.

My 28 HP didn't have one either. So I guess they just put them on the bigger engines like was said...

I was looking on some parts web sites and cant find a listing 4 that engine....I guess dealer will know 4 sure....Thank You
