You can go to mercurypartsexpress and put in your serial number to get part #'s.

Re: 2003 Merc Part Number

Ok, I got the fuel rebuilt. Seems to have helped with idle and overall a little smoother. I still had a few coughs in the beginning at about 1800 rpm but then seemed to go away? The primer bulb will still not get firm. any suggestions here would be helpful. Check all zip ties and replaced a few. Can the bulbs themselves go bad? anyway thanks so far guys, looking forward to advice. -Chris 2003 Mercury ELPTO 90HP
P.S. Started a hell of alot easier.

What sort of problem are you actually having? Yes the bulb can go bad, but the fuel pump won't have anything to do with it not build up.
When you keep pumping the bulb, does gas overflow into the motor?

Re: 2003 Merc Part Number

Hey Don,

First of all I would like to thanks for all of the years. 4 I believe since you helped me rebuild my first 4.3. Anyway, I do not keep pumping after 10 or 12 times because I was afraid of where the gas was going. Where should specifically check for over flow?

I have not replaced all of the zip ties either. I was concered that maybe one of those was letting air. This morining after I replaced the pump it got stiff for just a second but did not stay stiff?

Re: 2003 Merc Part Number

I have a Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP thats a 2003 model....its doing the SAME thing.... It starts easily....but when I accelerate sometimes its misses and slows to idle....when I check the primer bulb it is soft, or dry, I pump it up and the engine usually will start running again but the bulb will never get firm...I just replaced my primer bulb, put an inline fuel filter/water seperator on..still doing the same thing....I was told to check my fuel pick up it might be partially clogged up....thats my next step but if anyone knows the solution to this or you figure it out with your engine please pass it on...

I was not aware I had to hold it up? I have just always reached back and squeezed it. I will try it tonight and see what happens.
