After being interviewed by the school administration, the eager teaching prospect said: "Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning, and I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, modify their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse and even censor their T-shirt messages and dress habits.

You want me to wage a war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for weapons of mass destruction, and raise their self esteem.

You want me to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, fair play, how to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job.

I am to check their heads for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of anti-social behavior, make sure all students pass the state exams, even those who don't come to school regularly or complete any of their assignments.

Plus, I am to make sure that all of the students with handicaps get an equal education regardless of the extent of their mental or physical handicap.

I am to communicate regularly with the parents by letter, telephone, newsletter and report card.

All of this I am to do with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a big smile and on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps!

You want me to do all of this and then you tell me........

I CAN'T PRAY?"

IMHO, if more people, especially the parents as well as the teachers, had been praying, there would not be so many of those problems to deal with in the first place.

"if more people, especially the parents as well as the teachers, had been praying, there would not be so many of those problems to deal with in the first place."

What a narrow-minded thing to say. So if I have this straight, the sort of things pointed out in LF's post, only happen to those that don't pray?

Tell me Boom, what sorts of things should the teacher pray for to keep this from happening? Perhaps the teachers, the student's and all else involved should not have gone to their Catholic preacher for help.

Furthermore, teachers can pray! Who says they can't? Who says they don't? Or do you mean have a service in a public school during operating hours? Big diff between the two and a whole other can of worms.

If a public school held a church service, Boom, you would be the first one to scream that the denomination is not acceptable to you. Also. if their is open worship to God, which worshipers get to pick their God to be worshiped in schools? Can some worship Allah? Boom, can some worship Allah while sitting next to your son or daughter in a public school? I think we both know the answer to that.

If God, any God can be worshipped, how about Satan? How would that sit with ya Boom? Or, would you rather extend rights to those you agree with and limit the rights of those you don't agree with?

Re: Teacher Applicant

LF, I apologize, but some things are just not funny. I was with you on this all the way, until the last sentence. In fact, my original comment was not going to be negative at all. That is, until Boom started pointing fingers. To me, it's one of those misconceptions that the uninformed use to make public education out to be a bad place.

If you want to point at me for changing the mood of this thread, ok. I believe the mood changed though when fingers were first pointed. I was not going to allow far right, dreamt up BS to go unchallenged.

BTW, I am still waiting for some sort of a response to the questions I posed to ya Boom. Is it hard to argue when you don't know what you are talking about?

very good one LF

this place is really going over the edge, it's a shame when a joke is not welcome and can start a political arguement
