does any one know a web site where I can see diagrams or exploded views of Mercury motors especially in the '80s?

Silvertip, I just looked in my manual and the page was missing. I guess my dog ate it. Please, scan and send me a copy of yours. Thanks

In the service manual.

Ya.... I don't mind helping someone who wants to save some dough and work on thier own outboard. But if they're too cheap to at least buy a manual, they get what they paid for. :D

Kinda like someone wanting to do 1/2 a lower unit service by changing the impeller and not changing the foot oil.

Re: Mercury outboard diagrams

Real nice attitude there guys about the manual, have you considered that it many places (like areas where you have to drive 100+ miles to get to a body of water, most dealers don't stock a complete set of manuals and it takes over a week to get one, which is very inconvenient when you can get the parts, and want to do some testing that weekend....

So I suggest to stop ragging on people who need help right away with diagrams and such, if you don't want to help them, don't help them but don't just post to put them down, that doesn't help them and makes you look arrogant.

just my $0.02

P.S. This has been the most helpful forum I've ever used, but no community meant to help people should be a place where a newbie will get insulted based on assumptions.

If I had bought a manual for everything I've owned, torn down to a "nub", re-assembled and ran, or still run today,

That would be a lot of manuals.

Re: Mercury outboard diagrams

gentlemen, technically it is a violation of the copy right. to post a diagram out of the manual. on the web. the sites that have them, have permission inorder to sell the product. if, some one sent me a PM, asking, or i've even offered to send a scan, if i have it. and as said before it's all already on the web.

So in other words you have never thought of the little box you are looking at right now that comes up with any manual ya want with a few mouse clicks and money? Ever tried just a Google search and get 99% of whats in the the Manual for free by putting a little effort into it (BRP..DR..Merc specific sites, many others)? Theres a fine line between years of hard knocks and time and money for the experience given free here by many, and someone who just wants something for nothing. I think GB here is sincere, but needs to be told to put a little more effort in it. When all else fails, THEN come to us.
You only have 4 posts, so giving the rest of us rules and telling us how to behave is beyond me. And you chiming in with your opinion in another persons post just plain rude...
PS. Think Georgiaboy probably has 100 lakes in those 100 miles of your theory:rolleyes:

Ya know something..unless I know I plan to rebuild it, I NEVER will buy anything from someone when I ask the simple question "Do you have a Manual for it?", and they say no.

Um, NO. if you had READ my post you would realize that possibly there are situations where people are sitting here with a manual for an uncommon motor on order but would like to get something done now, since not everyone has disposable amounts of money and time to spend on such pursuits. I'm just commenting that a reply to a question like "Look in the manual" defeats the purpose of the website. Sorry for thinking that friendliness and helpfulness should be presented here, obviously this is where you go to see who can be the bigger jerk instead of who can help... Thanks for clearing this all up for me

btw, reply-ing won't do any good, as I'm not going to use this set of forums anymore

Come on guys. He was given several places to find diagrams, and a dog doesn't eat one page out of a manual, that's total BS, and the poster didn't ask if someone could or would scan and send him a copy. He told silvertip to. But he did say please.
And yes people do rebuild things without the manual........ Why is beyond me, they really have no idea if what they are doing is right or wrong, what torque values are, specs for wear, special steps etc. And then brag how it works so great............ till if blows up on the 3rd trip out. Then you never hear anything about how great the job was.

I can't let this slip by.
In other words, "WWAHHH... I WANT IT NOW!" (sound of feet stomping in the background..)
People with that problem (not many motors uncommon here to the informed either), should stick with the wind-up in the tub with suds.
Sorry if I pissed ya off, but ya butt in with zero expierence, not your post, and telling me what to do is YOUR loss , not mine
(Ya remind me of that "Trog" idiot that made Don S almost leave this forum a few years back)

Ok fellows, that's enough now.
If you want to help the guy, fine, if not that's ok also but enough of the flaming.

Re: Mercury outboard diagrams

It is annoying when someone wants something for nothing or asks to violate copyright law. Often a newbie doesn't understand what seems intuitive to we old salts.

Everyone should have a factory Service Manual for anything he plans to work on, and he has no right to expect it free unless he got it with the product. My guess is that about 75-90% of the questions asked here would be answered in a factory Service Manual.

Sometimes an abrupt, direct answer offends the asker (or a lurker) when no insult was intended. Sometimes someone hijacks a thread (like a moderator, for example. :) ) to scold about manners.

I think that is what happened here. It adds nothing to the value of the thread. I think all value to this thread is already there, so let's terminate the off topic discussion.
