Not asking why or what to do. Just thought some would like to know and I am feeling sorry for myself.

Re: Water in oil

Well last night I got it started in between the monsoons and it fired right up. Ran good as I broke in the cam. Shut it down , went to start it again after a couple minutes and the starter (with my simi dead batteries) got about a ? turn and then skipped over a tooth. Being dark I shut everything down and closed up shop until today when I could see what I was doing. First thing I did was change the shim in the starter and went to hit the key. It went a ? turn and then it skipped over another tooth. Did that as I changed shims thinking it was the starter a couple times and each time it did the same thing. It finally dawned on me that I was looking in the wrong direction and checked the oil. There was plenty of brown oil but also the tell tail sign of water with the white gunk in it,
Now I know why I was having the starter issue. I pressure tested the manifolds (they are older) before I decided to reuse them but I guess after running them last night something broke loose.
I will start taking it apart tomorrow.

Well, before you take it apart, find out what is leaking. If you are getting water in your cylinders and hydrolocking you might try a compression test first followed by a leakdown on (if there is one) the offending cylinder/s to see if you can hear the leak.
With all the rain, are you sure water didn't get down the carb and into the cylinders somehow?

One other thing. I don't know what cam you finally ended up using, but I sure hope it doesn't have a lot of overlap and you are sucking water back into the cylinders while it's at idle.
Just a thought.

Na, I made a special effort Saturday to make sure the motor was all closed up before the rain. I even checked the oil last night while it was running and it was clean.
I didn't mean I was going to take the motor apart yet for what a qt of diesel fuel will do. The motor does sit tight in between the rear seat molds. Not enough room to do a leak down test so the manifolds will have to go first so I will be able to see if there is water. Then I will pull the plugs and spin the motor to see what cylinder(s) it comes from. Then the next test and the next.........

As for the cam. It is a mild one. Not much over stock. A little more snappy with good lobe separation. :)

Any Chance you've got an Oil Cooler on that thing,......
Not the P/S Cooler, an Engine Oil Cooler,..??.....
It Might be something to Look at........

No oil cooler. Its the manifolds in some way. I am 95% sure it is. It might even be the collectors I am using. I will find out hopefully tonight when I get home. Time for a little CSI investigation.

Re: Water in oil

Just thought I would throw this out there. There are head gasket variations for the GM big blocks that will let water into the lifter valley. If you got the wrong head set.......

Re: Water in oil

I am at a loss so far. Pulled the exhaust manifolds and not a drop. Pulled the plugs and spun the motor and not a drop. I only had time to check the compression and it was fine also. On to bigger and better things tomorrow.

Re: Water in oil

Sounds like it's time to pressure test the cooling system.

You have a PM.
