Okay, let's try this. I had to replace the radiator on my 99 ram 5.9. there was so much aluminum there, that I took it apart, in order to scrap it, along whith a pile of brass in my shop. The transmission cooler was internal on one side of the tanks, fairly large unit. Will this work as an oil cooler in the boat? 5.7

Re: Oil cooler, OMC

It might work....

Some engines put out more pressure than the return line in a transmission. You might be putting 80psi oil press or more on it during initial start when the engine is cold. You might just blow it up!

It's probably better to use a "real" engine oil cooler. (It should be a water-to-oil heat exchanger instead of an air-oil type.

They aren't that expensive and for a boat they are pretty small since they usually have somewhat cold water running thru them. There's always a couple of them for sale on EBAY for less than $50 or so.

You should use the "right" one...

Just wondering, it looked like it was hi-tech.
