Ok, i dont really know how to start this.

My first boat, and of course, it was free.
from what i can tell, Yarcraft Yankee, 16 ft maybe?
Chrysler 105, no idea what year

So this boat was free, basically its in pieces. The guy said it did work when he parked it. no idea when that was.

My steering linkage isnt hooked up, no battery, and right now the motor is held in the high trim postion by a tie down. I really have no idea where to start.

I have looked at it, hull, floor, and ransom, in good shape with no visible dry rot. im mainly worried about the steering and motor. i dont even need seats,(coolers work great)

so i have been reading and basically have figured out that i need to order a manual, need to test the compression.

I really have no idea where to start. but i do know, i have from now till the end of summer to work on it, and have a summer job. I just need some advice on how to get started. ANY and ALL info is GREATLY appreciated.

find the serial number on the motor..thats the first place to start.....take some pics for us to see :) then do a compression check, spark check..go to autozone and buy a compression checker and a spark tester..shouldnt run you more than $40 for both.....buy a manual off ebay..

Don't do any trouble shooting without a manual. If you do your compression check be absolutely sure the plug wires are grounded or poof goes the ignition system. The ignition system is sensitive to improper procedures and could be damaged. You may find a manual at the library.

Re: chrysler 105, where do i begin?

1057H(3)? could that be HB or HE It is a 2 letter code indicating the year.
I assume HA would be 1970 HB -71 and so on
3 kinds of Magna power ignition system were used.Magna power Delta has a flat plate rectifier in 2 styles located next to the distributor,Magnapowwer II
has a regulator/rectifier in a molded case under the flywheel,Magnapower Motorola Is in a finned aluminum case ajacent to the distributor.
Apparently some models do not have a distributor.I believe yours would.
If you are missing ignition parts I would think seriously about parting out the motor. And save for a more mainline brand. Some parts are no longer available, others are are expensive.

Before you go and buy anything, the first thing you need to do is to remove all four spark plugs. In order, put your thumb over each hole while turning over the flywheel. If it doesn't blow your thumb off the hole, there is no compression and the engine needs a major overhaul.
Now the question becomes: how much money do you want to invest in the engine.

The 105 was like the Chevy Nova: Chrysler made millions of them and this block and lower unit were common to the 100, 105, and 120. with an overbore, it was also common to the 115 and 135, and with a stroked crank, the 125 and 140. So with a little looking, you usually can find parts.

Pistons are still available aftermarket. So again, the only real question is: Do you want to become a Chrysler aficionado and, how much money are you willing to invest.

Worst case: 4 pistons at about 100 each, electronic ignition used at about 1-200 bucks, a prop used at 50 -150 bucks. gaskets and small parts who knows, 100? These engines are EASY to work on and you could do almost all of the repairs yourself with the exception of boring cylinders. Worst case 900-1000 bucks --you could buy a running engine for that amount. But remember, that's if everything is wrong with it.

Gamble 30 bucks and buy a repair manual. I like Clymers. First set everything back to factory specs and then try to fire it up. If it runs, you're golden.
