I have a neighbor that works nights so he sleeps during the day. I usually let him know a day or two ahead of time when I'm going to fire up the boat in the spring so as not to disturb him. This spring I hung a five gallon bucket as shown in the picture and it cuts down the exhaust noise a fair amount. Just don't put the engine in gear or the bucket will definitely develop some leaks. I decarbed this year and the bucket did a great job of catching the black goo. Sure made a mess in the bucket though but better there than on the driveway. A little dish soap cleaned it up nicely.

How does that affect planing?

Oh, and how many pollocks does it take to install the thing?

Put the alcohol down, and knock off the smart as$ stuff..ya get on the idiot list here real quick, and when YOU get a problem...(get my drift?)

Wow!!! Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed!

I've been here for over a year now, I've posted helpful suggestions whenever I felt qualified to do so (see my post count). I thought the whole forum consisted of people who enjoyed boats and boating, and didn't know a little OBVIOUS humor would offend anyone. The title of the thread after all IS Polish Outboard Muffler; that in itself suggests some acceptance of humor. BTW: no alcohol was involved in my statement. Maybe you could lighten up a bit???

Look what Imus got canned for...the less we see of gender, name calling, etc, brought up, the better the whole will be. Joking belongs in the "Basement" (DC)..
I have edited my post...

Re: Polish Outboard Muffler

I apologize if I offended you SCAATY, I assumed since the thread was titled POLISH OUTBOARD MUFFLER that the title in itself was a pollock joke. If you are offended by Polish remarks, I would think you would have issue with the entire thread...

Just an FYI my grandmother was born in Poland, her maiden name was Czeluwicz; she met my Irish-American grandfather while in the military. I think this makes me 1/16th Polish. The best Pollock jokes I ever heard were told by her; she was also blonde and told some pretty funny blonde jokes to boot.

I realize this is a forum where people exchange information and help others with boat issues. This thread was more of Silvertip sharing a handy tip with other members. HIS post was entertaining as well as informative
[quote/] "Just don't put the engine in gear or the bucket will definitely develop some leaks."
also see title.
I am self-employed and work in the real estate business; things are stressful to say the least right now. Boating, being on the water, fixing my boat, enjoying fellowship and exchanging ideas and information on this forum, are all ways I find a little respite. If this forum were ALL nuts and bolts with no room for a smile, I certainly wouldn't be here. I think that is why there are smilies both on the right and below the text box. When I'm making my living, I get the job done; that doesn't stop me from making light on occasion. I truly believe you can do both, sometimes simultaneously.
I'm not sure what Don Imus has to do with this; he is an idiot, but Jesse Jackson is an even bigger idiot, Al Sharpton bigger still. They make more public racist remarks than I ever heard from Imus.

Re: Polish Outboard Muffler

Society is getting to be such a bunch of up-tight whiners that whatever anyone says, writes, and thinks gets someone's undies in a bunch. My Mother-in-Law (hence my wife) are of Polish decent (I'm German/Swiss) and we have a great time kidding back & forth. Try it some time. It just might take your mind of your real problems. In retrospect I could have titled this post "Yankee Ingenuity" but then the folks south of the Mason Dixon line would be upset because someone down there may have already thought about this. I could have said "German Craftsmanship" but the Mercedes/Audi/Porsche croud would have been upset because of the crude application. I could have said "Rube Goldberg Muffler" and the entire left coast would have been on my case. I could have titled it very generically and nobody would have read it. All of these are age-old cliche's for heavens sake. Oops - that has a religious connotation so I'll change it to "cripes sake". Come on folks --lighten up. Life is too darned short to get wrapped around the axle over a little tongue in cheek humor.

Pollok is a fish! POLACK is the politically incorrect term. Sorry! Couldn't resist.

Actually, I use a short piece of 4 inch PVC w/a cap and drill a few 1/2" holes in and hold it on with a couple bungee cords. You acutually get a a little back pressure this way and it does quiet things down.

That is a great tip!!! I always wanted to start up my 150HP motor in front of my house before hauling it 1-2 hours to the lake, but always hesitated to do so early in the morning because of the noise. I like to start it up before each outing so I am less worried that it will NOT start at the lake (with friends and family watching and waiting) when I get there.

Do you by chance have a picture of your invention (installed or not)?

Thanks
