1989 5.0 merc 2 barrel carb raw water cooled. My question here is when you run your boat there is sediment and sand in the lake, river, etc. ( Example: You should drain your hot water heater in your house annually to remove deposits and sediments from municipal water.)

How can you drain your block to make sure you don't have sediment? Can and should you run your motor without drain plugs in block?

I hope this is clear because it was hard to figure out what to write.

Flushing with the Muffs on the drive should be fine BUT in normal fresh water i cant see it doing anything ?

Saltwater is a different story

leaveing out the plugs would spray water in BAD places :)

Generaly when you winterize the motor the drain plugs are removed that should get out any normal stuff

Re: Flushing Motor (Advice)

I have the flush kit with the metal pin throught it, and when I run the motor, the side with the hose is taking in more water than the other? What am I doing wrong? The other side gets really hot, then I have to swap the flusher to cool and flush the other side of the motor...

wewe,.....

There are 2 Drains in your Block,....... 1 Drain each side....
Port-side is down low, just about center of the Block, where the Oil Pan starts.....
Starboard-side is way down low, Just ahead of the Starter.....

Usually Once a year while winterizing,.... Those Drains are Pulled,+ the hole should be Routed Out with a Screw or Nail,.....
That get's the Sediment,+ Whatever's Collecting in there,..... Out.....

If you're boating in the Salt,..... Salt-away is Probably a Good Idea,....
But you should still be able to Clean the Drains/ Block once a year.....

BAMO,..........

You need to Start your Own Thread,+ Not Hi-Jack wewe's,......

Your Issue is Different,+ We'll need to know What your Power Is........Motor, Drive, Etc.....

Thanks Bondo,

I will start using salt away after each use. The answer to my question was actually answered this weekend by another post and makes great sense.( Rust will form faster when air hit wet metal) something like that.

Thanks Again
