i think i will take on my transom next what exactly do i have to do? i have peeled some off the glassing off and there is rot at top corner and both sides transom near engine and a little at bottom. the rot at the top corner go through to the sides of the boat? and the rot at the bottom go into the keel? where and what should i cut off? should i buy the new materials first before i cut it? and what materials will be needed? what tools will i need? i have added some pictures to help maybe you could copy the picture and draw on it with mspaint and post it back to me showing where to cut.

thanks for your time.

Re: transom removal/instalation

you've got a major job with that boat. it is a solid wooden boat that has been fiberglassed. start buy bracking that boat, like i told you, you start cutting and nothing is going to stay where it is. make a template of the transom, tear out the inside motor well and start over there. then remove the old transom, fit the new one cut from the template. the new one should be 2 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood. then you can rebuild the motor well. if you do not have carpentry skills you better get some help. this job, is not like tear out the plywood transom, in a manufactured fiberglass boat that you don't cut the outside glass.

cardboard, brown paper, newspaper taped together. like i said start with taking out the motor well, then what ever you have to do, without doing too much damage.
