Force 125. Power Trim just "clicks"

My power tilt/trim worked fine 2 weeks ago. Took it out this weekend and no worky. It clicks inside the motor like it is engaging but nothing else happens. Batteries are full power, posts clean etc... Any idea what else is causing this before I pay big bucks for a mechanic to tackle it?

The boat is a 1987. Trim motor has 2 wires going into it.

The clicking sound is the solenoid, if the solenoid is working then you're getting power to it so the tilt motor is probably dead. That would be my guess.

not always true
u can say u are getting power to the relay/solenoid
u can have corrosion on the t-bar, which will click and not make a connection

try putting 12v to the blue or green wire, see if the motor works

Before you go crazy, replace both relays. The click you hear is the relay closing. If the contacts inside the relays are corroded, worn, or burned, no power will get to the motor. The relays cost about 17 bucks each, but you can get similar ones in the junkyard out of Buicks. The relay will look different, but if it has 5 wires it is the same and will plug right in and work.

under the carberators to the right are a pair of trim relays. They are near the starter solenoid held down with one screw each into the cowling pan. Pull off the connectors leaving the relays bolted onto pan. Stick a jewelers screwdriver into the face of connector to depress the locking tab on blue and green motor leads. While the locking tab is depressed pull the wire(s) out of back. Now you can pull the trim motor wires completely out of the outboard. Touch the blue wire to battery positive and the green wire to battery negative.

If motor does not spin then motor is bad. Send somewhere for repair. This is good time to get pump fixed too. If motor bad then pump usually not far behind.

If motor does spin then relay, switch, or wiring is bad. In this case reconnect connector to relay. Stick voltage probe into blue hole and operate trim switch "up". It should light. Move voltage probe to green hole and push down switch. It should light. If no light then check switch. If switch good then check power input from circuit breaker. if switch and power good then relay bad.
