I have the same Yamaha powered Mercury outboard, except mine is an 03. Replace the thermostat and water pump impeller. I would change the oil as well since it has over heated. I just order tune up parts (timing belt, water pump impeller etc) and a factory manual from Larry at Ellisport.

Not that difficult at all, search impellar on this site and it will take you through it. Good luck.

I doubt the non-factory manual will be much help. It appears that these collaboration outboards don't usually get specifically describe well in general after market manuals. The 25hp big Foot Mercury outboard has a Yamaha engine, I actually think the whole outboard is a Yamaha high thrust. Mercury has not manufactured an outboard under 40hp for a long time. The current models are manufactured by Tohatsu. Good Luck
